Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our Doodle Olivia recently had an unusual reaction the morning after we gave her Inteceptor and applied Frontline Plus.  It almost seemed like a seizure.  We have always applied the Frontline Plus and gave our Doodles their Inteceptor after dinner on the First Day of every month.  We are interested to know how other Doodle Moms are managing the heartworm and flea prevention schedule.

We live in Florida, and my vet says that they have been having some problems with Frontline here, doesn't seem to be all that effective. I use Confortis for fleas, the pill they take and I use a tic collar for the tics...So far so good, no signs of either tics or fleas, and my two had no bad reaction to the confortis. Of course you need to check with your vet and see what they say...
oops. sry I forgot mine get heartguard for heartworm prevention...
Cheryl, thank you for your info on Confortis. We will check into this. As for the tick collar, our one doodle manages to chew on her collar so that wouldn't work for us. But in northern NJ, we seem to have more issues with fleas than ticks (so far, anyway). Cheryl, your Oliver is very beautiful!
We also do the Interceptor and Frontline on the first of the month, and I've never had a problem like what you describe. Did you talk to your Vet?
Jane, thank you for your reply. Yes, they suggested that we change the schedule to the 1st and the 15th of the month for each of the applications. We are trying this out in November.
Thanks, for sharing this. Maybe I should be doing the same thing....I'm going to check with my Vet also.
Jane, my sister and I just looked at your profile and we cried when we read it. It is so fun to read. Guinness and Murphy are beautiful!!!!!! We are not guinness girls, but we do like red wine. We were going to name our fist doodle Shiraz but it seemed a bit too masculine, so we named her Sydney. We sure can relate to the sock issue. Our one Doodle, Olivia, has a foot and sock fetish. She loves feet and anyone's socks that are anywhere is sight. She does not destroy them, she just runs around the house shaking them in her mouth like they are alive. Thanks, again for your info!
Thank you so much! I've been known to enjoy a little red wine myself from time to time!
I am so sorry. I hope everything is okay. How frightening.

We were told not to give them both on the same day, that this is to hard on the dog. I spread them apart by 7 days on my calender. Too much ...is just too much at one time.

As for Frontline................ good grief. Is it just me or do other people see a pattern of bad cases here? Even on DK the past 2 years there are several ( or more ) horror stories with Frontline.
Maybe you might want to ask your vet about a different brand. I know NJ has a horrible time with ticks and dog illnesses and Frontline might be the best brand for your dogs in your state--I dunno??

We use K9 Advantix ( and it works with ticks ). The only draw back with K9 Advantix is you must watch your cats around the dogs after the application.

Again, I hope your dog is okay and Please--Check into something else besides Frontline.
Joanne, thank you for your concern. We are looking at K9 Advantix since it repels fleas. Your page for Spud and Starlit is great. We especially like the Beach Romp with the Beach Boys!
thanks for stopping in.... We had a great time that day.
I give Gracie Doodle Comfortis on the first of each month and Sentinal of the 15th. We don't have ticks but if we go into tick areas when we travel then I will be using Frontline Plus and Preventic tick collars for dogs. I have not had any problems with Comfortis, Sentinal nor Frontline Plus. Haven't used the tick collar so I don't know if there will be a reaction to it.
