Almost a year ago I started to clip CeeGee myself so save some money.  I bought a clipper at
WalMart, an Oster that wasn't too expensive just in case I wound up shaving her bald or making her look like a clown because I just couldn't do it right. As luck and much prayer would have it, she looks pretty good when I'm done :) Now I want to graduate to a better quality clipper, one where the blades are easy to realign after taking them apart to clean and have the comb guides.  I've looked on the internet but without knowing about clippers, I'm not sure which to buy.  I've saved enough by doing clips myself so I can spend a little more but would like to get a pair that's a good buy for the money.  Does anyone have an recommendations?

I have an Andis with a #30 blade and Wahl stainless steel combs bought online at Petedge. Max has a very thick wavy fleece coat and these are wonderful. I love the stainless steel combs since I keep him cut pretty short in the summer. I tried the plastic combs and they broke.
There are great tips on this in the Grooming group--check it out!
I would also reccommend the Andis clippers and blades and also have bought all of my grooming stuff from petedge.com. They are well worth the money.
Here is what I have been using for the past year and a half. Oster A5 2-speed clippers, universal plastic comb attachments, Oster A-5 Blades #40, #15 and #10. I have been reading and reading all the discussions on DK and have also kept updated in the "Grooming Group" where there are professional groomers who are giving advice. The consensus has always been Andis clippers or Oster clippers. My Oster A5 clippers are heavy, hard to hold, noisy and they get really hot. Since I use the plastic comb attachments I am able to continue with my grooming because the metal blade never touches the Doodle but it gets hot in my hand. I have small hands and they are becoming arthritic so I felt there was time for a change. I finally did a deeper comparison of the clippers on-line. Along with quite a few DKers saying to go with the metal universal comb attachments rather than the plastic, I decided to order a set. They say they glide through the hair easier. I ended up buying the Andis 22405 UltraEdge AGC 2-Speed Detachable Blade Animal Clipper, Blue through Amazon for $136.28. They arrived on Monday and I tried them out. Quiet, cool, ergonomically comfortable on my hands and very smooth to use. I love them!!! They are so much better than the Oster A5. I also got the Wahl Stainless Steel Attachment Guide Combs (www.cherrybrook.com) for $36.99. What is really great is that the Oster A5 blades are innerchangable with the Andis AGC2 clippers. So I didn't have to order all new blades. You can use the Oster or the Andis blades on either clipper. I also ordered a new set of 3 shears which are fantastic...really sharp though. Got these through www.petedge.com and they were backordered. Geib Gator Shear Pet Grooming Kit 3 Piece $169.99. You get a pair of straight, curved and blending shears. The only thing left for me to get is a new pair of little blunt end scissors to replace my old ones. I am 100% happier with all my new grooming equipment!!!! Basically I got all new grooming equipment...Merry Christmas Gracie Doodle!!!

You don't need to look any further!!!! There are quite a few different models within each manufacturer but the Andis AGC2 are perfect!!!
I have a Remington Pet Clipper, with a vacuum attached to it that actually sucks up the hair as you work! Fabuous! I got it at Pet Supermarket. I had one made by Wahl before this, and this one does a much better job. It's probably not as professional quality as the Andis recommended above, but at $24.99 it keeps Beau looking great....and no mess in my house either! Probably not for a huge dog, as the chamber is not large.....I have to empty it several times while I am clipping Beau, and he is only 25 pounds. But I do recommend this highly.
Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. You guys are a wealth of information and I'm so thankful for all of you.

Have a great Thanksgiving and if you're traveling, travel safe.
I have an Andis that I bought in 1989 and it istill works as well as it did then.

I also have #10, #7F and 7SW, #4F and 4SW, the #10 foot clipper blades and the combs. If your dog is Poodly, forget the combs, they get stuck and pull off.

The Andis blades clip on and off and they are resharpenable (is that a word?).

There is a company called 1-800-36-BLADe that does the sharpening. I buy all my blades at Pet Edge, too.
