Taste of the Wild

Does anyone out there use Taste of the Wild dog food, and if so which flavor?  I got a few sample bags of this dog food from the pet store because my soon-to-be new pup eats that food now with her breeder. I wanted to sample the food with my current dog to see if he would like it. He appears to love it (at least the Salmon). I'm just curious if (a) others use that food; (b) which flavor; and (c) if you stick with just one flavor or is it possible to switch up or combine flavors if it is the same make of food? Don't want to screw up my dogs digestive system.

We switched from EVO when it was bought out to TOTW. We like it. It is highly rated and a bit cheaper than some of the other grain-free kibbles. We use the Salmon. The drawback is that it does have a bit of a fishy scent that I noticed when we first started using it but my nose has gotten used to it. Our dog's poop is usually firm and easy to clean up (not as great as when they were on EVO though).

Unfortunately, the DK search feature is down, or you could do a search of all the many discussions we've had here about TOTW. Yes, many people here feed it, we use all the formulas, and you can switch "flavors" with each bag. However, with a new puppy, it's best to keep her on whatever formula the breeder is using for a few weeks after she comes home. Just leaving her litter is enough change for awhile.
On the main page of The Food Group, we have a link to our recommended foods list, where you can get info on all the foods & formulas we recommend. And ordinarily, you can seacrh the discussions here if you want to know about a particular food. Hope this helps.

TOTW roasted lamb is what I feed Camus and he is doing really well on it. The price is an added plus.

So far, only the roasted lamb. I do plan on trying the other flavors, but I need to introduce slowly and only one new food item at a time, since he seems to have a sensitive digestive system.

Hi Carol, Duff loves Taste of the Wild. We change flavors about every 6 weeks. His favorite is Water Fowl, I think, although our local store just started carrying a new flavor that I picked up yesterday - I think it was Buffalo and fish - I might be way off on that one. I do think the Salmon makes his face stink, but he likes it, so we keep in rotation. He's also a big fan of salmon pills in his food. He gobbles them right up (only one per feeding). I have also noticed when we dog sit for friends and their dogs eat Duff's food, they have way more energy and healthier poops (of course, some of them feed their dogs absolute junk, so the change isn't surprising - no puppy junk food in our house).

Hi Carol, I use totw, the roasted fowl variety. Oliver loves it. I like the way his coat and his weight and his poops are with it. I did use the salmon flavor first, and he liked that one too, but he startred smelling like a fish to me, lol, so we switched over to the roasted fowl and he likes that one as well. I haven't tried the other varieties, because DH buys the big bag and I keep forgeting to tell him to buys a smaller one so we can try other flavors and maybe switch off. But it is cheaper to buy the big bag, then the smaller ones...

You can buy a big bag and then get a different formula the next time.
