Bandit came neutered I thought it was great because then I didn't have to go through the whole ordeal, which it was with Rosey which is a whole different story.  He has not had any issues.

Hi Frances-

I just go my puppy about 2 weeks ago and she too was with a breeder who believed in what she called "juvenile neutering." I asked my Vet about it before I got her and although she didn't prefer it she said it was fine. My trainer on the other hand did not agree, but the Vet carried more weight with me. As it turned out the breeder's Vet was out of town so he could not perform the neutering so I received an intact puppy but of course, as you indicated, had to sign a contract saying I would neuter her before she was 7 months (I will even receive a refund for some of the cost of the puppy when I provide the papers). I don't know the legalities or "code of conduct" your breeder is referring to but if you feel strongly you may want to protest a little more or at least review the RSPCA guidelines.  My breeder did provide the attached article on juvenile neutering, maybe this will help! Good luck!

Yes, your life will never be the same, in the most wonderful way!  ;-)

Thankyou Carol I am sure you are right it feels so good just what I need and the pup will be a lucky much loved Dog and if it all goes well we are getting another next year lol .. really we must be mad X thanks again

My breeder neutered my goldendoodle as well around 8 weeks.  I was concerned so I talked to my vet.  My vet said that their are more risks with exposing a puppy to anethesia at a young age than there are with juv neutering.  One interesting thing she mentioned is that by neutering the puppy before its first period, you lower the risk of breast cancer.  There is one positive!  Best of luck to you and your new pup.  I picked mine up last week and I am complete love.

Thankyou Kelly and Daphne nice of you to give me this advise its great to talk to other people I love my pup already I just want him home now where we can start to make him feel loved and happy ..your pup is adorable by the way  lucky lady X

It is fine to neuter them at a very young age. It actually makes the surgery easier on the animal as far as recovery is concerned and isn't really any more risky than doing surgery at an older age. Surgery is always a risk, no matter the circumstances.

Old school vets were taught to neuter at around 6 months, but any one who is a recent graduate will tell you that they teach them now it is fine to do it younger. Most shelter animals are spayed/neutered at a very young age. My ALS was neutered at 7 weeks as well, he is as healthy and happy as any dog I have ever had. I worked in vet clinics for years where we neutered cats and dogs anywhere from 6 weeks up.

Bottom line is I wouldn't be concerned.

Thankyou so much for taking the time and your advise I feel loads better now that I have spoken to people about this matter Thanks again X
Most neutering before puberty is about equal as far as possible good/bad effects.  So no worries.

Thanks adina your a gem ..

There is a Holistic Vet that works in association with Dr. Mercola that has an opinion I read about on-line in the last 2-3months or so. Her name is Dr. Karen Becker.  She disagrees with early spay/neutering, saying it may effect the normal development of adrenal glands, if I remember correctly.  I called my breeder when I read her article, as Morgan was set to be neutered. (At about 8 weeks.) She forwarded the article I sent her to her vet, who told her she has not seen any issues with adrenal glands with early spay/neutering.  She added that if ever any adrenal issues did arise, they could supplement, much like they do with thyroid in hypothyroid disease.  I was not completely satisfied with that and asked my own vet, who thought early spay/neuter was fine, and that is what she actually recommends. The recovery is much easier on the dog, she says, and this did wind up to be true.  Morgan and his litter mates barely noticed they'd had surgery.  They never even slowed down.
