Went to the Dr today to get the split replaced with a cast for my broken wrist . . . or so we thought . . . when I took the splint off for x-rays (first time I removed it since I broke my wrist on the 27th)--my wrist looked yukkie . . . almost deformed and even the back of my wrist is black and blue . . . I was therefore surprised, but not totally shocked, when the Dr advised surgery. The wrist is broken much worse than the emergency room staff thought. Without surgery, I will probably never regain full function of my hand and/or fingers. The up side is it is in and out the same day even though they will put me under . . .

I really, really need to solve my bone strength issue before I wind up breaking a major bone--like hip or tailbone which I easily could have done this time. I have an awesome primary care Dr and she already has a plan in mind to try to diagnose whatever the specific issue it is with my bones and come up with a plan to correct the problem. Strenght training will no double be a component . . .

So, for the next few weeks, I will be mostly one handed. It's not too bad for photography except that the turning motion of focusing hurts a bit . . .

Since you are already taking meds the only other suggestion I have is to be more consistent with your exercise. I am sure you are taking extra calcium but you also need to be taking extra magnesium and vit d to help with the absorption. If you could drink milk fortified with extra calcium it is better than taking it in pill form, the absorption is much better. Good Luck
You'd need a lot of milk though and since D is fat soluble I wonder if skim milk would be good for the absorption. That's a lot of calories otherwise for a little person. But make sure you divide the calcium supplements since you can't absorb it all at once. Vitamin D levels are readily available now.

Is it osterporosis?

Here are a few sites that contain a lot of diet information for bone health:

National Institute on Aging--falls and fractures

www.nig.gov/nia

National Institute of Health Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases' National Resource Center

www.osteo.org

National Osteoporosis Foundation

www.nof.org

Unfortunately much of this is decided before we reach 30 years of age but there are some diets that can help now later in life.  Even simple exercise such as walking help a lot.

Hey Diane...we can all take turns coming up to your Lake House and hanging out with you and helping you focus your camera!!!!!  Driving to your Lake House is probably the same distance for me as going to San Jose or Mammoth from San Diego!!!  Gracie Doodle and Dakota would have a ball!!!  ha ha  Take care of yourself and I hope the surgery goes smoothly.

Nancie!!!! Seriously!!!! Let's do that! We LOVE having company at the lake house--it's designed for entertaining friends. We have 4 bedrooms and a full, complete basement that has a full bar, pool table, slot machine, dart board, pin ball machine and an old juke box!! It's a fun room and has plenty of space for doggies to run and romp. Outside, we have a fenced dog run that's about 20' by 65' -- Dakota is fine off leash but some critters are runners so this keeps them happily confined! . We have a 1000sf deck with two BBQs. --Are you getting the idea we love to have friends visit???  There is a 600 acre Osprey Preserve one house away from us and probably 100 acres lakefront in front of our house that is just begging for Doodles and honorary Doodles to romp and play. And if Gracie is a swimmer, the lake is great for dogs to play in. For some unknown reason, the people that live in our little resort community don't appeciate what they have and Dakota and I often have the lake to ourselves for as far as the eye can see!! Occasionally some people bring their dogs down for a swim but generally that just adds to the fun!!!

Bottom line: no joke here--we would LOVE to have you and Gracie come and share our favorite place with us! I'll happily send you our tentative lake schedule for the spring/summer!!!!

Shoul we all make reservations? : )

YES!!!!!

This is our house. My husband and I designed it and my husband built it--I'm very proud of him for his dedicated work!!! It was a once-in-a-lifetime project!!

How very beautiful it is and the setting and the picture of it. What a special place. How can you bear to leave it?
Wow! Seeing this brings back memories for me.  The outside looks like my friend Lee's house up in NH on Lake Winnipesauke.  How beautiful!  You both should be very proud!
Zoe - We're in NH by Winni.  What town did you visit?
What a beautiful home and amazing location.

I am so sorry to hear that your break is worse than thought.  That has to be depressing when you thought you would be part way healed.  Your doctor must be great to help you get the bone thing figured out.  I am wishing you well and want to let you know that your one-handed photos will still be the envy of so many of us.

Had to hit edit.   Group romp at the lake house????? Yea.  Ned and Clancy say they will bring their RV and their non-doodle brother too.  They don't care if Mom and Dad come, Clancy and Ned are arguing over who gets to drive and who gets to ride shot gun.  They said Gracie can ride with them too and they will make  a 'slight' detour for Calla, Luca and all their other doodle friends.
