Went to the Dr today to get the split replaced with a cast for my broken wrist . . . or so we thought . . . when I took the splint off for x-rays (first time I removed it since I broke my wrist on the 27th)--my wrist looked yukkie . . . almost deformed and even the back of my wrist is black and blue . . . I was therefore surprised, but not totally shocked, when the Dr advised surgery. The wrist is broken much worse than the emergency room staff thought. Without surgery, I will probably never regain full function of my hand and/or fingers. The up side is it is in and out the same day even though they will put me under . . .

I really, really need to solve my bone strength issue before I wind up breaking a major bone--like hip or tailbone which I easily could have done this time. I have an awesome primary care Dr and she already has a plan in mind to try to diagnose whatever the specific issue it is with my bones and come up with a plan to correct the problem. Strenght training will no double be a component . . .

So, for the next few weeks, I will be mostly one handed. It's not too bad for photography except that the turning motion of focusing hurts a bit . . .

Wow, what good hearted doodles, except for the not caring about the parents coming part.
Well, Ned and Clancy figure they can fit more doodles in if the 'rents aren't along.....
Fabulous!! Dakota is really getting excited!!
Brace yourself, there could be a doodle caravan pulling up to your door at any minute.
Wolfsboro are you near there?  His house is on one of the islands.  The house isn't open during the winter...What a small doodle world!
It certainly is!  We have a boatslip over the the Back Bay in Wolfeboro!  Love Winni and spend loads of time out on the lake in the summer.   And then again in the winter once it ices up!

Next time I'm up there, we'll have to get together!

HELLO!!!! surgery was today . . .
surgery was different than we expected. they ran "late" as always. i was scheduled for 11:00 and got in the operating room at 12:15. just prior, the anesthesiologist discussed options with me. she said she would like to do a nerve block and sedate me--or give me a general too--my choice. i went for the blocker--did that for my ankle and i did fine with it. i opted for sedation, if possible vs being knocked out. she said we could play it by ear -- the blocker and sedation worked fine early on--she asked me if i was feeling any pain. i said no--just hands touching. she said everything must be working because they just crunched, twisted and aligned my bones in very graphic ways that should have been excruciating and i felt none of it!! i did feel the incision more than i wanted but it was only a few minutes of that. surgery lasted 3 hours which surprised us a lot. the worst part is i am in a splint but it is like a huge club with my fingers only peeking out!!! i will have no use of my left arm/hand at all until the 21st when i get my cast--never thought i'd look forward to a cast!!!!! i am on major pain pills--they said this type of surgery is particularly painful. i'll be in touch but it will be limited for a week or so . . .
I'm glad the surgery went well and hope you haven't too much pain in the next few days. The 21st is practically here but we will miss you. Good luck!
I am so glad that this stage is over and you are going to be heeling now.  My son had a spiral fracture of a metacarpal with pins etc. so while, I don't know how you feel, I empathize with how you feel and with your recovery.  We will miss your comments but know that you are lurking...
so far pain is excruciating . . . they told me --AFTER surgery--that this procedure has a particularly painful recovery. i'm hoping that the pain should start subsiding later today . . .
Oh Diane, I'm so sorry.  Maybe you need different pain meds???? Here's hoping things get better as the day goes on.
