Bile Throw Up

My labradoodle Bella has been throwing up bile a couple of mornings a week.  It normally happens early in the morning before she has eaten breakfast or gone out.  She seems fine after she throws up and eats all of her breakfast.  Her potty and poop are normal as well.  A few of the times I can understand why it has happened - I gave her a bully stick or Himalayan dog chew but recently I have not given her these items for fear they are what is causing the throw up.  It does not seem to be the case all the time though.  Should I be concerned?

 

Does anyone else have this problem or might know why it is happening?

There have been discussions on this. It seems to occur because of empty stomachs. People have had success from giving the dog a small amount of food, or a biscuit, etc. before bedtime, especially if the dog eats all food in the morning..

Ann, I would not worry.  When Remington was a puppy he use to throw up ALL the time.  Every night around 4 in the morning he would throw up bile.  It worked like clockwork!!!  I was sure something was wrong, but the vet said that it was probably just because his belly was getting empty about that time and since there was nothing in there the bile was just sitting there upsetting his belly.  What we started doing was feeding him later in the evening.  We use to feed him supper at like 5 or 6, but changed it to 7 or 7:30.  This took care of almost all the problems!  We also started putting a table spoon of yogurt in his food at night and this seemed to help too.  Hope this works on Bella :)

This has not happened to Buddy.  But has been discussed on here before.  Have you tried giving her a little something to eat before bedtime.  It may be that she just needs a little something to help her get through the night until breakfast.  Try that and see if it helps.  Good luck!

As others said, no worries. Start giving Bella a late night treat before you go to bed - such as a biscuit, that will keep her tummy satisfied before breakfast!

I second the rest of the comments.  Hershey use to do this to, and the vet recommended feeding her later in the evening.  Now she gets 4 small meals a day, with her last one right before bed around 10pm or 11pm.  No more 4am pukies!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.  I will try feeding her later in the evening and giving her a biscuit before bedtime and see if that helps.

I swear she and Bandit ARE related.  He gets up for 30 minutes and sleeps for 3 hours...on the bed of course!

My doodles both have such sensitive stomachs. I have yet to find something they can chew without consequences. The bedtime snack seems a good option. Nothing like waking up at 5am to the sound of "hooka, hooka, hooka!" Worse when you step in it on the way to open the door for them! Good luck.

Hi Everyone, I gave Bella a snack before bed last night and I thought we were in the clear until I heard her at 8am this morning throwing up (Bile again).  I was just about to get up too!  Oh well, we will try again until we find something that works - ugh!

I can sympathize with you!  Emma was also throwing up yellow bile quite frequently (maybe once or twice a week).  I've tried giving her a snack close to bedtime (someone suggested a piece of bread), but that really didn't help, either (I posted many discussions about bile here).  Anyway, when Emma skips her dinner, which is often, I give her my homemade chicken jerky, which so far has resolved the problem.  I was buying the chicken jerky from BJs but found that her poops were very soft and she was throwing up much more frequently (another very lengthy discussion about that here).  Luckily, when Emma knows she's going to vomit, she immediately jumps off the bed and runs to the front door and does it outside!
