I think this has come up before, but I just haven't been able to find the discussion.  Murphy's beard stinks!  I had him groomed on Monday, and they did cut it back some, and he had a good "face wash".  He came home looking and smelling great.  By yesterday, the beard was slimy and smelled awful.  It's because he's dipping his whole face in the water dish when he drinks.  He "emerges" from a drink of water dripping wet.  I've been trying to wipe it dry each time, but that's a never ending task.  I can get it clean by putting some shampoo on a facecloth and washing it really well...but that only lasts a day.  I worry about putting too much shampoo on his face....that can't be good.  I look at other Doodles' pictures, and their beards look just fine....not discolored and even pretty dry, plus I'm betting they don't stink.  So how are you doing it?

Here are a couple pictures of Cooper after his recent grooming.  Not sure if this is what you want, but his beard is very short.

Cooper is gorgeous!
Thank you!  I had the groomer cut  his mustache, beard and his ears short this time because he was getting them in his water bowl.   Then she only trimmed him up a few spots, like the sanitary areas and feet.   I had him short for summer, but wanted to let him grow longer in the winter.   Just couldn't handle the wet face all the time and the shorter mustache and beard really helps.  He seems to like it better too.  I don't see him rubbing his face on my rug as much.
Thanks, yes I do think I need to have his beard this short.  It really looks great.  I wasn't able to get an appointment with the groomer I really wanted until the first week of Feb, so we're doing the baby wipes to hold us over.  I've got to get some vinegar when I shop today....hoping that will help.
You're groomer did a lovely job on Cooper! I haven't been able to find one that "gets" the doodle look.
