I look at all these great pictures of all the great doodles here and I wonder if there is something I can do with Oliver.  He hates the camera, he sees it and he runs...It is so hard to get good pictures of him, and it is so frustrating...If you guys knew what I went thru to get the pictures for the holiday cards you wouldn't believe it.  Do you guys have any suggestions?...I have some great ones that a friend took New Years Eve of both my guys, and they are really nice, but he has a very expensive complicated camera, that is very fast, and of course he knows how to use it, lol....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have tried treats, toys, u name it...I don't know how he knows the camera, we have tried different ones, no flash, etc. He for some reason sees it and runs....Very frustrating to say the least.  I am going to have a cd made of the great pictures and put them on my site for all to see, but what do I do when I want to take a picture????

Luckily for me, my daughter is a photographer and I usually just copy her pictures. I am going to ask her if she has any tricks. I thought maybe a kong, but you said you had used treats. He doesn't have to be looking at the camera for a great candid shot, so maybe you could just follow him around snapping away and see what happens. He is sure cute in his profile picture.
Thanks Laurie, I would appreciate any ideas....We are going to our Doodle Romp tomorrow, so i will try again to get some good pictures.  Maybe he will be too busy with the other dogs to pay atrention to me, I hope....Wait till you see these new pictures, I know I am his Mom, but these pictures really are something, lol, I wish there was a way of getting them to be put right on line, but I have to have have a disc made to do it i THINK...How wonderful to have a prof. photographer in the family!!!!

Cheryl, Do you have a digital camera? If so, you should be able to download the pictures directly to the computer using the USB cable. Here is something I found online:

Here is the simplest method:

  1. Connect the camera to your computer by using the camera's USB cable.

  2. Turn on the camera.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, click Import using Windows to copy pictures to your computer.

Laurie i can do that with my camera, but the guy that took the pictures printed thm out from his fancy schancy camera, lol, and sent them to me.  So I can't download them, but I was told to take them to walgreens and they can put them on a disc, I am going to do that tomorrow. My digital camera does just what u are telling me, I have it set to zoombrowsers, and thtss what it does, so when i get pictures I can download them right to the computer

My old Chow Butter hates camera. He has been hating it for a long long time..... I am thinking that at some point, probably the flash went off and scared him/ hurt his eyes or something, so now when he sees the camera, he just moves away.....

To take pictures of him, I just act like I am not paying any attention to him and stay in distance from him. I , then zoom into him and take pictures!!! So, he doesn't even know what went on.

Maybe I will try that, but he sees me following him around, and he turns the other way, lool, but I will keep trying.  thanks for the idea..

Maybe you could start by taking pictures with him on a leash when he can't run away, picture-treat, picture- treat, maybe then he will associate the camera with treats. Quincy has always been a cheap shot, any old treat will do. He is so used to the camera  he pretty much sits whenever he sees it.

thanks Jared and good luck to you too...
he might do it, but we have tried the treat bit, he is very food oriented, but I will try with the leash..thanks
Donna, Quincy is not a cheap shot, lol, we have tried the treats, but maybe doing it your way might make a difference.
I have the same problem with Jackdoodle. He hates the camera and it's almost impossible for me to get a decent photo of him. And forget posing, or setting up a cute scene. I think part of the problem is that I need another person to take the photo while I get Jack to focus on me. He would look at me and respond, but not if I have a camera in front of my face.
I have tried that with my husband taking the picture and having Oliver focus on me, that is how we got the holiday pictures, and it took about an hour...My poor Renny, he sits and will pose and let u do whatever, and if u tell him to smile he will, Oliver is just the opposite, lol, drives me nuts...But he has been that way from the first night we got him...
