Arthritis medication

What type of medication was prescribed for your dog for the arthritis pain? Please share.

We used 1 Bayer aspirin everyday with food.

Pete, my last dog lived 14++   He died in March of 2008.

He was a Lab /Mastiff mixed usually around 130lbs.  He was an old dog for his breed.   Had good hips for his age but there were some days there he had a hard time even with his knees.    This seemed to help.

 I have been reading a lot about meds, and some of the stuff is scarying me. You know, they always tell you the horrible side effects.
