Blending Shears

I just received my blending shears today!!! I love them. For all of you who are like me who are brand new to grooming your own baby, they are a life saver!!!!!!!!

I just went over the rough spots that I goofed up on when I used the razor, and walaa. It was like magic. His boo boo's are all blended.

We got so many compliments tonight when we were in our training class. I am a proud momma!!! Now for his legs to grow up a bit more....

How exciting. I am so glad they worked for you. I do the same thing and they are great around the face!! Also for the ends of the ears so you don't get that blunt straight cut look. I bet your "tail" was wagging tonight at the class! We do love the compliments our Doodle get and it is even more meaningful when we are the ones who do the grooming! I did Gracie today!

Thanks, I still have a long way to go in getting it right, but the blending shears sure do help. Gracie is adorable!!! I am getting a second toy doodle, sometime around the first week of June, the parents just started mating, so hopefully they will succeed in getting pregnant. Anyway, I am letting my mom pick the name out of this one and she chose Gracie!!! Gracie is my nick name to by someone that is very special to me, he was like a dad to me. So it is a double honor.

Thanks for the tips about the face and ears. I am going to go try that now!!!

Where did you get them? I am in the market for a pair for the same reason. Also, do they help on mats?!!!,

Tara...it really depends on the thickness of the mats. There are also what are called "thinning shears" and these would be more for thinning out an area. People have used them on mats but if it is really thick you could have problem. I have a mat buster which sort of looks like a rake and it has jagged teeth like blades which cut through the mats. Others will just cut into the mats with regular scissors in sort of a cross hatch type configuration and them use the comb to gently comb it out. You may need to use your fingers to break it up. The blending shears are mainly for "blending" scissor or cut marks where you sort of goofed in the trimming. You are able to blend the layers of hair to have an even flow and not look choppy. Also they are great for all face cutting. There are many past discussions in the grooming group. You can do a search. Good Luck.

It probably is the same thing or close to it. There are lots of tools out there and I just sort of had to try different ones to find the one that worked for me. My Groomer sold me my first one. These "better" tools are things you will not find at PetCo or PetSmart (usually). They sell cheaper versions of everything and I have found that the cheap stuff doesn't always hold up or it is not "user friendly" to your hands or to the Doodle. I just Google around for stuff or get stuff based on the recommendations here in DK. I pretty much have my "grooming kit" all put together and there is nothing much more I need. It has taken over two years to get it down to the stuff I like best though. We have a Dog show coming up at the end of the month. It is an annual event at our fair grounds. There are always booths there where they sell grooming supplies...even tables! If you ever have a show in your area you should drop in. You can watch them grooming the dogs before they go in the ring which is fun...you will NOT see Doodles though! I usually watch the Poodles and then only the ones under 1 year. They keep them in their puppy cuts until a year and then after that they make them look shaved and totally snobby looking! IMO

Thanks. I will look for a dog show. It sounds like fun. The poodle cut was almost the deal breaker for my husband with a doodle, until he saw what they usually look like! :)

I got them from the Martha Stewart collection at PetSmart, they were around $25.00. I have looked at the really expensive pairs of the blending shears, for me it didn't make sense to buy them right off the bat. For one, I am brand new to grooming and not one hundred percent committed to at home grooming. If I don't do a really good job eventually, I will take him back to a professional. These dogs are just to cute to look chopped up. SO far so good though and I am pleased.

The second reason I didn't get the more expensive ones is Jack is so small, He only weighs 11 pounds. I believe the more expensive ones may help you go faster. These are very nicely weighted and I am very happy. The difference was astounding in what they can do.

Good luck to you. Let me know what you decide to get okay? So we can compare notes. If down the road I am still at home grooming and feel like I want a better pair, I will think about it then.
