How much to feed to loose weight

I took the girls today to the vet to pick up their prescription of Interceptor. I had each of them weighed - Charli has gained 2 lbs and weighs a whopping 54.5 lbs and is 28" tall - she has gained 2 lbs in 7 weeks

Here's the problem - Samantha now weighs 81 lbs!!!! She is only 23" tall. Built like a lab, short legged and barrel chested. I am appalled!!! 3 months ago Sammie weighed 73.5 lbs and was looking great! Now that she turned 3 (today) I am worried about her joints with this excess weight.

 

I have not changed what I feed them, they get fed once a day usually betweeen 3p-4pm (I usually put a little kibble in Charli's bowl when she asks for it and I have never seen Sammie eat it) -

Dinner consists of 1.5 cups of Evo Chicken, a little ground chicken or beef mixed in with either canned carrots or green beans (without added salt). At bedtime, they each get a Milk Bone @125 cal, I know they are not good for them but they are the only big, crunchy biscuit I can find and they love the breaking and chewing of them.

537 - 1 cup of regular Evo = 805 cal for 1.5 cups

458 - 1 cup of Weight Management Evo = 687 calories for 1.5 cups

 

do you think that the 118 calorie difference between the 2 Evo's is enough for Sammie to loose weight? Should I cut her back 1/4 cup? I am at loss!

Granted - we have been housebound since the Christmas blizzard due to the snow and ice so there hasn't been much exercise.

Adrianne!!!  WTD??  When the snow clears can you look for Mother Hubbard treats?  They come in the big size... or can you put them in a Kong so they can work on it?  Mine won't eat veggies... I am sure Karen will have some good advice!!

I saw some OMH treats at the store that were huge.. but I can't find them on their site, I stuff 2 OMH treats in a regular sized kong and that will keep them occupied for about 30 mins...

I know!! So irritating! I tried baking my own but I couldn't get the hard, crunchy way they love.

Samantha never liked a kong - she used to eat raw carrots but not now. She has no choice but to eat the veggies in her dinner since the ground chicken is mixed in.

Though I do know that she lovesssss left over broccoli or cauliflower if I had baked cheese on it.                       Maybe a lot more broccoli and a little less kibble???

We now have perfected HARD CRUNCHY cookies.  If you decide to go back to baking treats let me know.  I'll tell you how we are getting the treats so hard.    I'll even send you an audio of the dogs loud crunching.

Spud  too, is a little porker lately.  Actually he is finally the right size but he sure has put on a lot of weight.  I tried the diet--GOOD LUCK!  HA.   I think walking and exercise is needed.  For me too.

I stopped baking cookies for Mac a long time ago - the only way I could get them crunchy was to make them thin (1/4") & felt because they were thin he should get more than just 1 - he was devouring them in seconds - which defeated the purpose.  Please share your secret!!!  Are these "HARD CRUNCY" cookies thicker than 1/4"?

No.  That is about right.  1" square also.  We use them as training treats, they are kept in our coat pockets, in the car, and in the kitchen. The dogs really get ENOUGH throughout the day.

We made them crunchy to prevent mold and plus, like Adrianne, they like crunch
