So... I don't know what I'm more excited about.... the snow finally starting to significantly melt here - which means no more circling round and round to find just the 'right' spot; Winter Break starting Saturday - which means FIVE whole school days off; or Day 100 which is tomorrow for us - which means 'only' 80 more to go!  I'll tell you, I have such a rough class this year that I think "Vacation" wins out, but followed closely by "Day 100"!!  What about you?  Does your school (elementary, of course) celebrate Day 100?  Do you guys get winter break?

100 day is a great day!! It gives me a sense of accomplishment! LOL!!!

Our snow is melting too. It has been very spring like with temps in mid to hgh 40's and tomorrow it is supposed to be 50 degrees. That all changes this weekend, with the forecast down into the 30's again and Monday is supposed to bring a wintery mix. Our winter break starts tomorrow. We only get a long weekend (Friday and Monday off). Some schools in the area get an entire week, but not my district. In some ways it is better because we get out a little earlier in the summer than those districts with the full week off. We had a busy week this week. We had Valentine's Day on Monday. On Wednesday I cooked 100 pancakes with my class to celebrate 100's Day. 100's Day was really today, but we didn't have time to fit in the 100 pancake breakfast. For celebrations the 4 first grade teachers each plan an activity and the kids rotate through the rooms about every 30 mins. The teachers stay put and the kids are divided up into mixed groups (1/4 of each class is put into 4 new groups so that they can work with other kids they don't normally get to see). The downside is presenting the same activity 4 times, but the upside is that I only have to plan 1 thing but the kids get to have fun and experience other things. It works pretty well.

I had a really rough group last year. It was by far my most challenging group. This year I really enjoy my class. I have some characters and they can be chatty, but they are good kids and they make me smile and laugh. I enjoy being with them. That isn't to say that I'm not going to enjoy this long weekend away from school though..... :) Enjoy your break!

We start here the Wednesday after Labor Day, have Christmas week off and then get the third week (president's day week) off in February, Spring break is around the Easter/Passover break and we end for the summer about June 22nd- 26th- whatever the fourth Friday is.  Ah!  Just writing that date sends needles up my spine!!!!!! Can NOT wait! LOL
Because of our furlough days we get out June 4th!  Yea for that and boo because we are making less money!
Our Day 100 was last week.  We do not get a winter break unless you rename Christmas vacation - which our district has done. Vacation wins out every time with me!
I remember making some craft items using 100 pieces of something for my kids' projects for the 100 day celebrations. One of them was snow globe made of plastic peanut butter jar, 100 metalic beads, and baby oil. It was pretty. 100 fruitloop necklace, war scene with 100 army men, etc..... If I am to make it now, I would make a collage of 100 doodles!!!
I've done something different for the past few years for Day 100....I ask each student to do a photo autobiography and display it how ever they'd like.  Then they write a page entitled "ALL About Me in (about) 100 Words...then on the day we do other activities like necklaces, etc... Angie - I do like the pancake idea!!!
Ah! That's really cool! I love that.

We celebrate 100 days but ours was two weeks ago  we must start earlier than you.   U get a winter Break how awesome is that???

My DH and I are going to Ireland for my spring break  can't wait ! !  ! !    Melting snow I LOVE   but we have a river in the back by the fence  so Wilson has to be on a tie out for awhile  which he DOES NOT LIKE AT ALL>

Wow!  that sounds great!  Have a great time in Ireland!  we start the Wed. after Labor Day and end the fourth Friday in June... YES!  I LOVE this break... no holidays, just relaxation!
Yep, 100th day is a big celebration for the primary kids here in California.  The kids make collections of 100 (beans, buttons, macaronis, etc) and have displays of 100.  My favorite activity was a buddy activity with 100 water balloon.  The big buddies would fill up the water balloons and then line up at a ball wall with their little buddies and balloons in each hand.  The little buddies would count to 100 and then we would have ready, aim, fire and there would be 100 water balloons thrown at the same time at the wall.  The kids loved it, from filling the balloons, to cleaning up all the rubber from the  pavement.  Of course, you need to get permission and it is best for the end of the day.
That sounds really cool for the kids, but I'm afraid - here on Long Island, we may have to throw snowballs.. but how cool would that be?  Come in your snow attire and make and throw 100 snowballs... something to think about for next year!
