Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I just joined Chocolate Doodles - Daisy is an F1B GoldenDoodle - 67 - 70LBS. She was really dark chocolate when we got her with white paws and now she is more of a chocolate head with red highlighted ears, cafe latte body and legs, she has always had white paws but now they are "blending" with her legs.

Daisy's Daddy is a white and chocolate Parti Std poodle and her Mommy is a black F1 Goldendoodle.

Has any of the Chocolate Doodles started dark chocolate brown and stayed that way? Just curious, we had no idea she would change so drastically, we love it though.

Chip is almost 4 years old and has not faded at all. He is an Australian Labradoodle. It has to do with the "dilution" gene. I love Daisy's white paws!

Coco is a multi-gen labradoodle. She was DARK brown when we got her...no light places at all...now she is a silvery/light brown mix with some white hairs mixed in. Her dad was a chocolate (darker) and her mom was black/silver. We love her color too...people are always saying what a beautiful coat she has...but she looks NOTHING at all like the puppy we picked out lol :D I will have to update her photos...haven't had time for awhile.
Daisy was so dark chocolate that people thought she was black. We were very surprised at the change.
Max has changed. He was very dark as a puppy and now is much lighter at 2 1/2 yrs old. He is an ALD and his Mommy is cafe latte & Daddy is dark chocolate. He takes after Mom :-)
Charlie's coloring (and his story of the changes) sound very much like Daisy's.  He didn't/doesn't have white feet, but the rest of the changes sound so similar!  I love his new color even more than the dark brown.  he gets lots of compliments on his "highlighted" tail, which is his lightest part :)
We also love Daisy's coloring, she is beautiful and unique. Her tail is gorgeous as well - full and feathered....it is the  most "Golden" part of hers I think and when people ask "what is she" and I tell them they always respond with "Oh, I see the Golden Retriever in her tail". It's funny cause everyone is getting familiar with Doodles now and they always ask if she is a Labradoodle or what?
Seda, born dark chocolate, is now at 9 months, starting to lighten up on her back and her belly.  Her dad is parchment and so is her mother, so I figured she would probably turn much lighter.   She is still dar on her head but their are long white hairs in her tail and the new fur is coming in more milk chocolate.
Cocoa hasn't faded and she is now 18 months old.  I believe that many poodles carry a "dilute" gene which causes the fading coat.  I think that a genetic test can be made for the "dilute" gene, but since labradoodles are mixed breed there can be no guarantees.  Luckily the cafe, chocolate and everything in between is so cute it really doesn't matter.  Daisy is adorable!
Yeah, Charlie lightened up a quite bit as well. She was a dark chocolate girl when she was a little puppy...
I'm getting a chocolate Labradoodle who was born only a few days ago.  I just spoke to the breeder and she said that when the puppies have even a few white hairs under their paw pads it's a good indication that they will lighten in time.  I don't mind I think they are all gorgeous but thought that was interesting to share here.
Hi Nicky, can't wait to meet your doodle on line....have you any idea which is yours from the litter?
No idea yet. I spoke with the breeder and she says it takes a few weeks for their personalities to develop.  I told her I didn't want an Alpha Male or a shy puppy but a middle of the road one.  Both the parents are absolutely the gentlest and gorgeous characters.  This is also a litter that was planned a long time ago with an over subscribed waiting list but I am pretty near top of the list.  I will keep you all posted as soon as I know more.
