The bed i just bought for myself is too high. Its 29 inches from the floor to the top of the mattress. Now my pug cant jump up on it.THats a problem because he loves to cuddle at night as do I.Dakota my doodle can jump on it.But i need my cuddle buddy back. The bed is cozy but not so much if i cant have my dog on it.Last night i picked him up and put him on the bed.He was shaking. Then i thought what if he jumps off and breaks a leg in the night or needs a drink of water. So i sadly had to put him on the floor. In the middle of the night he tried to jump up and he didnt make it.He almost did though. He hit the hardwood floor very hard and i feared the worst.luckly he is okay this time.So much for a good night sleep. Then i thought i would cut the whole bed frame down but that would only give me about 2 inches.                                                                                                                                                    IS there anything i can do about this other than buying dog stairs that wont fit in my small bedroom? Is there a simple solution?

Poor baby.  You and your dog ;-)

Seriously, I know how you feel b/c Porter hurt himself last spring and it took 8 weeks before he could jump on my bed.  i missed him.  I bought the stairs and he wouldn't use them.  They are now in my basement storage room and quite helpful there.

One thing you can do if you have a metal frame with wheels is take off the wheels and put floor protection foam/pad thingies under the sharp metal.  I did this to have my bed a little lower...maybe 3 inches.  I bought the pad thingies at Target (a pack of two, cut in half).

Also, if you try to construct something, like an intermediate level, just be aware that stability is key.  I think Porter hated the stairs because they rocked and slid a bit despite my best efforts to buy a heavy stair and stabilize it.

Jared-

Get a thiner box spring. You'll get a lot of height reduction from that. Mine is 1.5 inches thick. And it supports a king mattress that is 22 inches thick.

How about some kind of long and narrow piece of furniture that can fit at the end of the bed and your pug can jump on it first.
How many inches does he need to be able to make it onto the bed by himself? Perhaps just one step, which would not take up so much room but that would be high enough to make the difference for him? If it was well leveled and had a good non slip surface he should feel secure enough on it to use it.  We have steps for Tara to use in our house and it took some training and enouragement (treats and bribery!) for her to become comfortable using them. Now she uses them all the time with no problems.
I have a trunk at the end of my bed.  That is specifically there for my chihuahua to be able to get up and down from the bed.  I keep a blanket on it so that he doesn't hurt his joints.
I have no better ideas than those already suggested but I was thinking about what a helpful bunch of people we have here on DK. This is a recurrent thought.
Sounds like a good plan! Let us know how it works for him!!
Glad to hear that Ozzy can get on the bed to snuggle his dad again!  I'll bet you're both sleeping better!!
