Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi All! My 8 month old mini labradoodle, Peaches, is a really good girl. In the last month or so she has began playing with her toys in the most destructive ways possible. Luckily it's nothing that she's not allowed to play with. No matter what I get (nylabones, rubber toys, toys without stuffing, string toys, etc) she sets her mind to destroying it and does a really good job of it. The folks at the pet store suggested maybe that's just her way of playing, which I"m really okay with since she does it with the appropriate toys.  The only draw back is I am getting really sick of picking up little pieces of toys everywhere and buying new toys every few weeks.  Any suggestions of relatively indestructable toys or toys that provide other stimulation or interest?  Thanks!

Laura,
The store that I buy them from orders them from thepetcenter.com or Only Natural Pet Store. The brand she orders is manufactured by ZiwiPeak.

I have the same issue with my Aussiedoodle. He can tear apart a tennis ball in about 2 seconds flat and natural bones... forget it. He'll swallow huge chunks and then he'll have to throw them back up because of course he's not going to be able to digest them. (i have stopped giving them to him). I have had some luck with Rib bones. They last FOREVER but eventually he will crak those as well. I usually buy those in a set of three and then pull them up when I see them start to crack. I also found some cool toys at Safeway by Hartz called Dura Play Flexa Foam Balls that are VERY durable. My dogs find Nylabones BORING so I don't buy those anymore and Kongs are also pretty boring unless I'm filling them up constantly which I still do on occassion. Here is a list of some indestructable dog toys I've found. I heard the Himalayan Dog Chews are AMAZING but I've never personally used them yet. They're not toys they are chews so they don't last forever but I've heard that dogs love, love them and they last way longer then most dog chews and bones.
I have never heard of some of these balls you have mentioned. I need to look into them since Sonny really likes playing with balls. He ALWAYS has a tennis ball in his mouth. Unfortunately that Tirebiter was very short lived herer as was the Sqwuggies Squeak and Tug Toy. I wish Orbee would make a tennis ball. I think he just likes the feel of the outside. Good thing my father plays tennis and gives us balls every weekend.

I buy two packs of Marrow Bones from the local butcher.  They cost $2 for 3 large bones.  I cook them until no longer pink.  He chews on them until there is nothing left on or in them.  They have never splintered and when they get worn looking I throw them away!

Bailey is now 8 months old and doing the same thing. I bought her a bigger rope with a ball on the end on Thursday and within 15 minutes the tennis ball was half gone. So those are banned from the house. I ordered her some GoughNuts, but she doesn't seem that interested in them yet. I am thinking about the deer antlers, but not sure where to get them. Any suggestions. BTW, she is now in heat and banned to the kitchen. I feel so sorry for her since she has had free reign of the house since December and has been sleeping in our bedroom.
puppy diapers!

I got some great feedback from this discussion post. I bought a gough nuts, an orbee ball, some nylabone galileo bones, and a west paw zogo flex. My fav is the orbee ball. Peaches likes it alot, especially if someone is throwing it, but she doesn't tend to chew on it like she does other things so it's not a great toy to keep her amused by herself.  She isn't interested in the zogo flex unless I put a treat in it and it showed some wear within the first day. The gough nut she doesn't really care for. I really want her to dig into that! I also bought 2 pounds of antlers from an online company. With shipping the 2 lbs were 40 dollars I think and I got about 10 6 inch bones. She's still working on the first one and LOVES IT. That's over a month of tough chewing and it's still completely intact. I've given away some of my shipment to friends with pups and one of them swears there must be puppy crack inside the bones b/c dogs just go crazy for them. Very clean and not smelly. Here is the website I ordered from: http://www.elkusa.com/antler-chew.html#chews

40 dollars seems expensive but consider splitting a shipment with friends. One shipment will last you a long long time. Like I said, even after giving away 4 antlers and the one Peaches is currently chewing on, I prob have 4 or 5 brand new good sized ones.

One other thing she likes alot and can't really destory is her jolly ball. Got it for 10$ from petsmart: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3207064

She's clearly chewed up the ball inside but can't get it out so it still keeps her interest.

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
