Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all doodle lovers, (This is going to be bit long. I will try my best to keep it short)

I see all the dog pictures in doodlekisses with cute beards, so I am trying to imagine how my 15 weeks old pup will look like when he is fully grown.

I was reading Goldendoodle coat changes and saw smooth-coat Goldendoodles will never have a beard. Well, to be honest, I was bit disappointed. I am worried if my doodle is a smooth-coat.

Does anyone has any experience where you pup wasn’t fluffy but got a cute beard when grown up?
Here are two pictures of him. (My dad is holding him the one I took yesterday, 15weeks. The other one was taken at 12weeks)

I was told he is F1 Standard. (Father-standard poodle. Mother-golden retriever. Both parents are at 60lb weight range).

Beard or no beard, that is one cute doodle!!

Well when we got Huff we thought he would never look like a doodle but look at this:

a little later: I think 9 months

Folks, this discussion is more than a year old, and the memeber who posted it has not been active here on DK since then, back in December of 2009. I don't think your reassurances are being seen, and the dog in question is way past adulthood by now and the question would have been answered, lol.

Hi All,

I am the one who started this question in Dec 2009. My dog is now about 1.5 years and has a nice beard and a very handsome boy now.

Here is a picture of him-

Is it okay to say "I told you so?" LOL

Your doodle's coat and beard look very much like my Jack's!

@Karen & Jack, its okay to.... :-)
Karen, we were reading some of the older discussions and your comments from the original post.  Thank you for attaching information on the different coats.  You were commenting on the coats of doodles on DK.  Can you take a look at the photos on our page and let us know what you think about our Sydney's coat.  Sydney is the golden colored doodle.  THANKS!

Oh, I'm far from any kind of expert on doodle coats. I'm actually a poodle person. I think the doodle breeders are far better at describing the various coats.

Sydney has what I believe the doodle breeders call an "open face"; she looks more retrieverish to me. It's almost the opposite of the flatter-coated doodles who only have longer fur on their muzzles. She reminds me a lot of a curly-coated retriever, where the face is clean, but the body is longer and wavier.

Thanks, Karen!  Someone actually told us they thought she was a Duck Trolling Retriever.  No one believes that Sydney is a Doodle.  Even when we went to our first Doodle Romp, we had to explain that Sydney was a Doodle.  Since we did get Sydney from a breeder in PA, her papers show her as Fleece and Wool which is not what she appears to be.  And, according to the breeder and from her papers, she is a 7 and 9 generation labradoodle.  At first, we were waiting for Sydney to get fluffy.  We gave up after she was three since the breeder told us that their coats can change up to three years.  One of these days we will have her DNA tested.  She looked kind of fluffy as a puppy but she never did get a fluffy muzzle.  We had expectations of what our Doodle was supposed to look like when we got Sydney.   We love our Sydney even with the flat hair muzzle.  We are not loving the shedding, though!

I have looked everywhere for doodles that look like Darwin.  I've been wondering if he was going to "doodle" and get that nice beard!  It looks like Darwin will look almost exactly like your boy!  This makes me excited, you have a gorgeous doodle.

I actually prefer the straight coat!

He turned out sooooo handsome!!! :)

My goldendoodle looks a lot like him when he was a puppy. Do you think mines will have a facial beard? He has loose waves, but looks a lot like a golden retriever now. He even has feathering on the back of his legs and chest like a golden retriever. I hope his beard will come in like yours!

@ Rein - I love the way his coat turned out.   Is that picture after a recent brushing, or is it always long and straight like that?  He's a very handsome doodle!
