Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our nine month labradoodle has a beautiful coat, but it's starting to mat so badly. I know his adult coat is coming in and so I've been brushing, brushing, brushing. But he's still matting (mostly around his neck, on his belly and under his arms). Once he gets his adult coat in does this matting lessen quite a bit? Or are labradoodles always getting mats their entire lives? I just scheduled his first cut next week.

Hi Debbie...I know your area well...It is very beautiful..I grew up in Toronto ..The Willowdale area Yonge and C*****..Tobey is my first labradoodle..We lost our last dog Cedar a large yellow lab with a beautiful smooth coat there was never any coat change with him...I still don't understand what to expect with Tobey?
What brush did you order? I have a Les Pooches Matt Buster -- I know a lot of people love it, but it works moderately well for us.
Just be careful not to over-use the matt buster.  It isn't meant to be used at every grooming session.

i am in the exact same situation ( actually why i joined ) as i have been searching for the right product / tool/ technique  but it is crazy difficult and my dog Zoltan, used to love being brushed is right at this moment hiding from me as he cannot stand it.  I do think the newest tool works the best, Oscar undercoat rake.   It really seems to pull out the puppy coat,  but ... the dog is not tolerating too much grooming...

I too am calling a groomer tomorrow.   I have to say i love the shaggy dog look, and soon he will look like a bunch of other dogs ... but hopefully not be so dirty all the time.  our dogs are similarily coloured, is your a "parchment"

Your dog may not have an undercoat. We tried an undercoat rake and our doodle actually cried when we used it.  He doesn't have an undercoat so we were ripping out his real hair.  He doesn't like being brushed either, but he doesn't actually cry with a slicker brush and comb.

he does not have an undercoat ( aussie labradoodle) but it was recomended to me anyway as a way to pull out the puppy coat and to deal with matts.  my understanding is you basically brush ( ie pull out) out the puppy coat....   it does seem to work but he hates it.  so off to get his long locks cut off.

You're doggy is just adorable. His face (with the white muzzle) reminds me of Teddy. Teddy is actually an apricot or a gold color. Since we had him cut, he looks a bit lighter.
