How to choose a doggy day care? And when to start?

BB wants desperately to play with other dogs. He looks out our sliding door at the neighbor dogs longingly.

 

There is a vet's office near where I work that has a daycare that we could take BB to on Tues/Thurs when he usually goes in with my husband (it has been difficult for him, but we don't have another choice). It's not cheep, and I don't "LOVE" it, but I think he would get a lot out of the socialization and the employee's both seem very responsible. The place looks clean.

 

What kinds of things should I look for in deciding?

 

This place is better than the others in the area, and we live in a fairly rural area without many options to start with.

 

BB is getting his 12 week shots (3rd set) on Friday/Tomorrow. We'll talk with our vet about bringing him there before his 4th set, but from my understanding by Tuesday he should essentially be covered. What do you think?

Teddy started going to a doggy day camp. Today was his second time and when he comes home he is so tired. She said he plays with the other dogs really well. This is a great place but pretty expensive. We decided to do only once a week. I feel this gives him something to look forward to. We walk him on the trail about 3 times a week and play ball with him in the back yard. He will be a year old in May and needs lots of exercise. I feel all these things makes for a happy doodle.

Hi Carla,
Your puppy is still young so be careful about the dogs that he is exposed to until he has had all of his necessary shots. A good daycare will require you to have them. We live in Maine and were lucky enough to find a wonderful puppy daycare for young dogs only so our Coco could get some much needed playtime and socialization in a safe environment while also getting her good behavior rewarded and unwanted behavior curbed.
