Izzy is going in for her surgery on April 8th. They will take out the small lumps that are growing on her elbows. Wish us luck!!!
Oh dear! Good luck, Izzy!!!

This MUSHROOM WARNING was posted by "Becca and Lucy" in the Puppy Madness group. I'm reprinting it with her permission:

I took Miss Lucy out to potty in the back yard today. I was right there with her. I never let her go out alone bc I am afraid she might get into trouble. She's only 6 months and the temptation to dig is strong still :)

I let her out and the stinker RUNS as fast as she can to a mushroom and eats it! I got the steam out of her mouth but I knew she swallowed the cap of it. It was not there this AM. We have had a lot of humidity. I went right inside and called the vet just to make sure it was okay. I really called thinking they would say it was no big deal at all. They told me to get her in as quickly as I could so they could induce vomitting.

Our vet is about 25 minutues away with no traffic. Of course it was 4:30 and traiffic was bad. I had 2 small children in tow too. We got there in less then 40 minutes or so. They took her right back and gave her the meds. The vet let me know that mushrooms can cause liver failure. I had no clue! They wanted to keep her overnight.

The vet called me when I was on my way home and said that Lucy had already thrown up once and they saw big chunks of mushroom. That is a good thing. He was pretty sure she would be okay since I got her there so quickly.WHEW!!!!

I feel so bad she has to stay the night. She's never been away from me :( I am just so thankful she is okay. I just wanted to put this warning bc I really never thought about a mushroom hurting a puppy.

* Lucy is home now and resting comfortably, thank goodness!

Yesterday was a trip to the vet for Jellybean. From the time that she was quite young she has had a spot on her thigh that she bites at and rubs raw. At first the vet thought it could be a puppy strangle lesion as she did have strangles shortly after we got her. But over time as the area would heal, she would just move the biting further up her thigh. We used a ointment with antibiotic from the vet for weeks on the area. When wearing the cone after spaying the area began to heal but as soon as the cone was off, she was right back to the same spot. Thinking it could be a food allergy we changed her food to Origen large puppy because it is grain free in hopes it was something along those lines. Still continued the biting of her thigh. So yesterday after months of this, the vet gave her an injection of steroids and so far I haven't seen her touch the spot. We don't know if it is something in the yard she could be allergic to, the food, or a bad habit!
Izzy just got dropped off for her elbow surgery:( They anticipate 9:30 surgery
Toby and I are sending Izzy lots of love and doodle-y get well wishes!!!
Surgery went well. The large lump had grown larger within a 3 week period and was already attached a teeny bit to the bone. The small one on the other elbow wasn't attached to anything. The surgeon is glad we did this sooner than later. She should make a perfect recovery....whew!!! God how we worry about these furry babes:)
Poor thing! Thank goodness you did it now. Did they need to biopsy it?
It was biopsied when she was spayed. According to the surgeon it was a mineral deposit.
Hope Izzy is on the mend.  Did she have to have stitches?
Yes, but I won't see her until tomorrow. They are keeping her overnight. Better for her, better for me:)
