Buddy is 4 months old and is a digger.  It started when I tried to tie him to a stake in the yard so he could be out front with us when we were outside.  He dg up the grass in several places.  So I moved the stake.  Then every time I turned my back for a second, he would push the pine straw aside and dig with FURY!  It was funny to see how fast he could dig a big hole, but not so funny seeing the destruction.  I tried distractions with toys, chewys, pizzle sticks.  Nothing worked, I finally started covering up the area with large heavy boards, but then he would just dig next to them.

I finally gave up and now he is only out front with us on a leash attached to me.  Our back yard is fence and now when we go back there to play, he heads straight to the sandbox and DIGS!  The last straw is that he is now "digging" inside.  He loves to lay is doggy bed, but then he will sit up and start digging in his bed.  I am getting so frustrated, how can I get him to stop?

in preparation for my puppy coming home i have been reading everything i can find and watching videos. so i have no experience with digging problems but i have come across a solution recently. it is not to stop the dog from digging but instead to find a place for your dog to dig and make it so the dog wants to dig there and not everyplace else. here are two videos i found. the first one offers an actual solution and the second one just sort of explains why dogs dig.hope these help some.

I read somewhere that if you bury their poop in the hole and cover it back up.  After they dig it up a couple of times they stop.
They won't go back to THAT hole but it won't prevent them from starting a new hole.  Believe me...we have several poo filled holes in our yard.
i have the same problem as well rufus is digging and i put poop there and he goes to another spotand starts a new hole  i say no to him but does not help ?? not sure what else is good besides the poop ?
I feel your pain lol - Bella digs too and we have my sons toys everywhere covering her holes so he doesn't fall in them! I did buy her a knuckle bone the other day and gave it to her to take outside - that has kept her busy and luckily (so far) she hasn't buried it! I just hope she outgrows it - she is nearly 8mths.

i hope mine outgrows it tooo .... mine is 10 months and he still is doing it i keep plugging the hole with poop and he stars a new one he has toys galoure and walks but still wants to dig
