My husband thinks that this could be a good option to scissor cutting our doodle...
Anyone ever try this?

The one big challenge I can see with these is ... let me see if I can make this make sense ... when we scissor we cut in straight or rounded "planes" even though they have lots of contours on their bodies. For example, around the hocks on the back legs; we leave more length in some places and less in others to get a smooth look and blend areas together (base of the skull for another example). I'm thinking one of those would cut pretty much the same length all over. Also (just thinking out loud here) it wouldn't account for different types of hair on the same dog, or things like cowlicks that you have to blend with the surrounding hair.
On the other hand, you might be able to "rough out" the haircut with something like that and polish it with the scissors. Hmmm ... would be fun to play with it!Thanks Jen, I'll let you know if I try it...!
I don't know if this helps but I used to use the Flowbee. It has different lengths of blade covers and it totally frightened me when I used the short cover and almost caught the pets skin up in the blade because the vacuum suction was strong.
I put it away and never used it again. As I recall it was good to start a grooming for overly long fur, but the finished look needed more refinement. Still, I don't trust it and will not use it. As a matter of fact I had put it away and just found it
today while doing some Spring cleaning, think it is time to throw it out!
Linnea,
Perhaps by now the Flowbee has improved. My unit is probably 15 to 20 years old, when it first came out.
The longer attachments also would make it more safe to use and most doodles are kept in longer coats than I keep mine. My Flowbee was the Pet model so it was entirely for pet grooming. Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, just wanted to caution you to what could happen with the too short attachment and a strong vacuum.
