Will my reddish apricot goldendoodle change colors as he gets older?

Someone told me that the dog will usually stay the color of it's ears as they get older. Cooper is 12 weeks old and we love his color. Another person said apricot pups turn whitish as they get older. Seems like an odd statement.

Any experience out there with this color?

Great practical info. Thanks. Really makes no sense to me why they get lighter, but I guess that's nature. His brothers and sisters were a combo of red and very light blonde. He is remarkably darker than his lighter siblings, but lighter than his dark red brothers. Dad is a dark red/brown standard and mom typical golden retriever.

Just for some growing up pics of another apricot doodle... Luna is about 8 months old now, she's still apricot.   Her back and ears are a dark apricot, lighter on the sides, cream on her chest and belly. However, as I've seen on here, most people say their doodles don't fade for a few years. 

 

Here is Luna at 11 weeks then again at 8 months.  Her dad is an apricot/light apricot mini poodle, mom is a golden retriever.  As you can see, she's actually gotten considerably darker (to the colour of her ears) since we got her... but the base of all her dark hairs is white/cream, so who knows what's going to happen!

Max had more apricot colored ears and body when I get him at 10 weeks. He is now pretty much cream/white. Still adorable though!

Our Charlotte was called an apricot but whe was not as dark as Cooper.  She is much lighter now - definitely not an apricot.  I have heard that golden retrievers get darker as they age while poodles tend to fade.  Is this right, wrong, or stupid? :-)  If it is right then maybe if the color is coming from the golden side, they don't fade, but if it is from the poodle side, they lighten.

Most doodles will fade because they have poodle genes in them. Unfortunately, the fading and greying genes in poodles haven't been identified yet; so you just have to hope or make sure your pups parents and pedigree has a lot of the same color in its background. In your case, many reds.

I'm looking for a red goldendoodle and my breeder I've chosen has a very red F1 goldendoodle which is going to be bred to a miniature red poodle, who has lots of red in his pedigree. The F1 is the offspring of a golden and a mini red poodle who has a lot of red in his pedigree. So I'm really hoping that I'll get a res pup who will stay red! The mini poodle stud is still very red and is almost a year old, so I'm taking that as a good sign!
