Has anyone else experienced a puppy having issues when teething? Bailey has been diagnosed with a bone disease (HOD) and we thought he was having a flare up, but we think his adult teeth coming in might be the culprit. Have your puppies had issues when teething? Like not very energetic, not wanting to eat, not very playful....

Anyone else experience these symptoms with their puppies.

Thank you in advance!

Bailey is just so cute I want to squeeze her.  If you don't mind me asking, what is HOD?  Buddy had a bout of loose stools while he was teething and also wanted to chew all the time.  I understand teething in puppies can be painful like it is for  babies, so I would think that might make him less playful.

Luna didn't seem that interested in eating while she was teething, probably because it hurt.

We softened her food with a bit of water (cleared with the vet) and she ate it much more willingly.  We used a very small amount - about 2-3 tbsp of water in a full bowl of food, then swished it around to coat all the pieces.

Thank you Pam & Luna for replying!

@Pam - Thank you! We think he looks like a teddy bear...cute and cuddly! HOD stands for Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy, which is a bone disease that cause the front legs of the puppy to grow too fast and can deform the puppy's legs. Right now Bailey has a little bit of a deformity to his front legs, but nothing too bad that would affect him walking (fingers crossed he makes it through this okay). It seems like all his adult teeth are coming in at once! He is a bit better today, but his breath is so nasty!!! I think the bad breath is from the teeth coming in as he has been bleeding a bit when a new tooth cuts through his gums.

@Luna - My husband added water to his Fromm kibble yesterday and he ate like a champ! I think that is such a brilliant idea!

Thank you again for your responses!

Sorry I called Bailey a her, My daughter's dog is also Bailey and a girl, Its a good name for both sexes.  Buddy also bled when his teeth were coming in, and his breath smelled as well.  Hope your little guy continues to improve.
Pam, that is no problem at all! Most people think Bailey is a girl because of his name.

So there is hope for his stinky breath :) Bailey's breath is so bad! I really hope it gets better once all his teeth are in!

We are happy that it is his teeth causing him problems right now and not his legs. The vet says once Bailey stops going through the growth spurts, usually at 8-10 months, we will know how the disease has affected his legs. So he is on a lower protein/calcium/calorie kibble (which he loves!) to hopefully help slow his growth. Time will tell.
