Does anyone know if beet powder, in small amounts, is safe for dogs? I don't mind cleaning up after my dogs, I mind the poop hunt. My thought is that if I add something to their food to change the color (in this case a mind-boggling red) my clean up task would be easier.
Any thoughts??

I wouldn't add anything to a dog's food just for the purpose of finding the poop easier, lol.
I don't know anything about beet powder, but beet pulp is added to many less expensive dog foods as a fiber source, and there's quite a bit of controversy about it being related to yeast infections, especially in the ears, due to the sugar content. While I'm not sure that's true, I wouldn't risk it.
One solution would be to just clean up immediately each time they go. With the weather getting nicer now, it's easier to be outdoors with them and just get it as it happens.
Well I know it sounds silly, but my yard is quite large and I have kids who bring home herds of boys and I really have to keep the yard clean. The dogs go in and out on their own multiple times a day and I'm not always there to see where they are.
Who would know about beet powder?
I looked up beet powder and it is essentially dried beets. So there is a lot of sugar and some other better nutrients. But does it really color poop? Also, it would make dog vomit and poop nearly impossible to remove from anything if it stains anything like beets themselves do. This does not sound like a good idea overall.
Colored crayons works better for me! It makes their poop quite artistic looking and easy to find. Like finding Easter eggs ;-)
Just kidding--I don't actually recommend offering your dogs crayons. But mine have gobbled up some of Natalie's crayons and the results were ALMOST pretty. Hopefully with nicer weather and less wetness (mud and dark dirt) their poops will show up easier. I can't clean up after the dogs immediately go. It's nowhere near practical as I'm not always dressed or Natalie's not dressed to be outside at the drop of a hat. So our clean up is once or twice a week. Our lawnmower is broken at the moment and as the grass grows taller it's harder to find those sneaky poos!
