Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We recently purchased bully sticks from BestBullySticks.com.  Both of our doodles were not acting their normal selves this morning after having the bully sticks last night.  Olivia looked like she was drunk or drugged and Sydney had major problems from both ends.  Lots of vomitting on our Persian Rugs all night and this continued from both ends for about 10 hours until we got a Vet appointment.  Blood work is being done and she was given an anti-vomiting shot, an antibiotic shot, and we need to watch her for the next 12 hours before we check with the vet.  We thought bully sticks would help clean their teeth.  Perhaps a Dental cleaning would have been more cost effective.  Our Vet told us that he is getting lots of dogs with bad reactions from Bully Sticks due to salmonella poisinging.  WE ARE SO SORRY OUR LITTLE SYDNEY WE THOUGHT WE WERE DOING SOMETHING GOOD FOR YOU!

Hope they feel better soon!

I hope it's just a gastrointestinal upset and not salmonella! Hope they both feel better soon!

Karen, what do you give Jack to keep his teeth clean.  We have tried the drops in the water, brushing their teeth with CET Toothpaste, CET chews and now found Plaque Off ProDen on the internet which we thought we would try.  We have had Olivia's teeth cleaned twice by the Vet.  The first time was OK but the second time, she had a major problem with the anesthesia.  We worry about the anesthesia for both of our Doodles.  The Vet is telling us that they need their teeth cleaned.

Bully sticks don't do it for JD; he tears thru them in about 2 minutes. I'm not a fan of these various "dental" chews, either, and he won't touch most of them.

He just had a professional cleaning, and I'm supposed to be brushing his teeth several times a week. Easier said than done, but really, that's the only thing you can do for some dogs. If they'll chew on "recreational" bones, that's another alternative, but a lot of it is genetic.

Sydney is sleeping now, Thank God!!!!   14 hours of taking her out, clean up the vomit/poo, and try and comfort her!!!!!!!    For the future, are there healthy bones that we should look for?  We tried marrow bones from our butcher and neither of our Doodle were not interested in them.  Are "Shin bones" from the Best Bully Sticks as risky as the bully sticks?  We are so puzzled to try to keep their teeth and gims healthy.
I wouldn't order any bones on line. The only ones I trust are are beef or bison marrow bones (from the animal's femur) and I want to see them myself before buying.
Get better soon!!!  Please keep us posted.
OMD - I hope she is better real quick. I also hope it wasn't the bully sticks - we get MOO free range, odorless and Daisy loves them.
Those are the bully sticks we also gave them.  We thought we were doing some good for their teeth cleaning and chewing.  Now we are regretting it!  Sydney has been crying from pain all day.   We don't know what to do for her now.  We are hoping the anti-nausea shot will make her more comfortable.  Having two Doodles complicates things more.  Olivia thinks she is getting punished having to stay in the TV Room with Sydney.
Is she holding down any water?  If her gums get tacky colored and she can't eat or drink, I would go in first thing in the morning.  Poor girl.  I know a thing or two about dogs getting sick from treats.
We went to the Vet earlier this afternoon with Sydney.  Hopefully the anti-nasea shot will help.  We need to watch her for the next 24 hours.  Our other Doodle Olivia is so confused and thinks she is bad since we are keeping them in our Doggie Room  from the rest of the houes until we know Sydney is a little better.
PLEASE FEEL BETTER SOON-CHLOE & MYLA
