i want to trim around my puppies eyes so she can see better. she doesn't really need any other grooming right now other than brushing which i do more than is needed because i love to brush her. the thing is she is a wiggly puppy. how does one teach a puppy to stay still to trim around eyes?

Hold your fingers over her eyes and clip carefully with a scissors under the eye.  I trim from under the eye to the side of their head and under the ear.  I find that the area under the ears is the most likely to get mats.  It kind of looks like a little heart trimmed into their face.  Cover the eyes however, before you try to cut near them.  Sometimes just seeing a scissors makes them start to skirm.
definitely listen to the experts.. you don't want to mess with the eyes.  You may want to consider a professional grooming ealry on just to get them used to it, but seek recommendations and be prepared to solicit what you want from the grooming session!
i think i will just get a professional groomer for now and as she gets older and can learn how to stand still calmly i will learn to do it myself. at least i can brush her for now. i love brushing her. i want her to love being brushed so when he coat changes it will be a bit easier.
As a step to teaching her to hold still for trimming...I've taught my puppy "face".  I hold my hand out and say "face" and she puts her muzzle in my hand and keeps it there until I release her with "okay".  We've worked up to a longer hold.  My next step will be to do it and hold scissors nearby so she sees them while we are practicing, and then to hold them up next to her face, etc.  I have Kenzie groomed so I haven't had to do it myself yet, but if I ever do I  want her to be comfortable.  If you choose do this - I'd say get a pretty long hold before you introduce the scissors...just take your time.

I used to wait until she was worn out and sleeping. Also be sure to use blunt tip scissors.

To help with getting her to hold still, give her little bits of peanut butter. That will keep her busy and she will be likely to be a little more still. Otherwise, begin by having her sit, hold the scissors and let her sniff them....play with her hair and then work up to maybe 'one' snip with the scissors, then continue.

With puppies it might take one or two times to get the bangs cut. Giving treats all the time will help associate that action, with something pleasant.

Actually do that with all training, treats, rewards, grooming, training = something nice.

Good luck.

I just use the small round tip scissors to trim around Charlie's eyes. I use my left hand to get a hold of her snout, and trim with scissors in my right hand.
