its like a never ending story.

When I got Trixie 11 days ago ...she was going frequently & I asked about that...Some stools were a little loose.  but nothing too bad.

Then her stools firmed up & she started going less...And also started getting distracted & not going when she had to.

Today she started the day with 2 firm poops.

This afternoon I smelled a fart & decided she must have to go...She was sleeping.  I actually woke her up- carried her outside.  Put her down & all poop let loose!   diarrhea.

She went again.  I gave her more time..Seemed like she was done.

Brought her in & she started crying 5 minutes later...brought her out...Nothing.

My daughter came over about 30 minutes later.

She let Trixie out & she peed.

We were upstairs ...Trixie walked away from us & it just started dropping out of her!

I picked her up & ran her outside...But she didnt have to go anymore.

She is on the same food she was on at the Breeders.

She has a Bully stick that she has had for 1 week.  She gets to chew it 1-2 times a day for 15 minutes ( I wont give that to her for now)

I gave her deworming meds on Saturday...Could that give her diarrhea this many days later?

So.

What do I do?

What would you suggest I feed her tonight...Or skip dinner? : (

I know she needs to drink water.

Tips for cleaning up carpet?

Thanks

Hello everyone.  This sounds all to familiar to me as I posted the same exact discussion about a week ago.  Thank goodness for all of the wonderful feedback here on DK, our little 12 week old Taylor is better.  With negative results on her fecal test and us trying everything under the sun, she had very loose stools and was going about 15 times per day.  We gradually changed her food and then we started giving her a mixture of boiled skinless chicken, brown rice, carrots and pumpkin.  She absolutely loves it and it took care of the loose stools.  Now she has 2 bowel movement per day.  We have incorporated some Iams kibble into her mix as well.

I was convinced that something was wrong with her but he is fine now and happy as ever!  Thanks to everyone who helped and good luck to those still experiencing this problem.

:)

Very glad to hear that Taylor is doing better!   And feeling good too.  I was very worried about Trixie also.

So far (Since Sunday Night) Trixie has been doing very good.  She has had 2-3 normal stools a day.

She is on the all bland diet with A little pumpkin....I will keep her on this for the week probably before I start adding in a little kibble ( I think)  Will see how the week goes.

So I brought Trixie to the Vet today.  I was worried about her.  I just felt she wasnt feeling good (not acting like a Puppy)

Monday all seemed good.  her stools were normal- Although only 2 that day.  She played alot & slept a normal amount.

Tuesday...Only 1 small poop the whole day & she did not play muchl.  She slept alot.

She also didnt drink as much  water...its like she doesnt want to drink it out of the bowl it has been in since we got her.  I put water in a different bowl & still she doesnt want it.

This morning after she ate...She slept for hours.

Last night I got her to drink water if I cup my fingers in the bowl...She will drink from my hand...if I move my hand out..She will not drink the water.  Anyone have this happen?

She was not interested in an ice cube either.

Her stool was rechecked.  Also for Coccidia- which was negative.  I did not have them run blood tests yet.

I came home with Metronidazole & Proviable to give her (Good & Bad Bacteria)

Also some Puppy Kaopectate.  Although I dont really feel she has Diarrhea anymore.  Vet says differently (not my normal vet) The sample I brought in was 1/2 solid 1/2 soft...2 times a day - Diarrhea?

I am hoping her unsettled stomach is causing her lethargy.

She is still on Hamb/rice diet.  She is eating that very good.  Picks up any rice she might drop & licks the bowl.  I did add some water to that this afternoon to get more water in her.

She has peed much more today then yesterday.

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately I have to revisit this thread : (

If you read  my posts on this thread.

Id say I had Trixie on the Rice/Hamb diet for about 4 days (like til April 10th)...I very slowly added in Chicken soup Kibble.

She is still on that Kibble with Part Rice.   her stools were not great, but they were ok.  Soft but formed.

As I have been decreasing the rice...I add a teaspoon of pumpkin to her morning kibble

So I decreased the rice a bit more 2 days ago.  She had one soft serve poop in the middle of the night.

Then yesterday she went twice, not much volume. Better then the nights poop.

Last night was a different story.  I think she woke us about 4 times & had diarhea every time. She then threw up a little bit of food twice.

All that was different in her day yesterday was...She had 3 ice cubes around 4pm.  I added in pumpkin I think to all 3 of her meals.  I also changed her bowl to slow down her eating by 1 minute.

She had 3/4 rice to her 2 1/4 of kibble...

Im beside myself on what I should do.

I gave her about 1/2 rice this am with 1/2 kibble & pumpkin.

Sorry to hear you are having these issues!  I went through our Ayla having diaryhea for 8 days- and waking us up every 2 hrs in the wee morning hours!  She did not throw up, though.   All because she had eaten some bad mud a week earlier.   Tried canned pumpkin, yogurt- these did not help for us.  Well, i finally had her checked at the vet & was given meds to firm up stools (Metronidazole & Panacur) and it went helped the very night! She has been a bit more hungrier- due to recovering from her loose stools, so i have increased her food a little. My 2 dogs are eating Orijen puppy food. Great firm stools. No treats. Last night she slept from 9:30pm- 5am- w/c i am relieved!   Hope she gets better soon.

I have not tried adding a bit of yogurt to her diet yet.

Should I try that?

(She has not had her bully Stick since April 6th)

No other edible bones.  No treats but her Kibble...

No treats of any kind.  You are smart to have taken away the bully stick.  Just feed her the dry kibble twice or three times a day and nothing else for a while.  She will eat if she is hungry.  When her stools are solid again, you can test out some treats.  Sometimes the deworming meds also have an effect on their tummies.

I was wondering about the deworming meds...The 1st time she had tummy problems was 4 days after the meds & then again 3 days after that.  This time it was longer after the meds...13 days.

Her poops have been better since we added in a little bit of yogurt.

She also played alot with 2 other dogs yesterday & drank lots of water : )

Plain old water, No broth, & some were not her normal bowls.

Yea, Trixie!

Yay trixie!! Coco had lots of trouble with her tummy when she was young!! I did lots of chicken and rice with her. She could not eat peanut butter until she was 7 months!! She had a hard time eating anything new. It got better as she got older. It always took me 2 weeks to get her off rice and chicken! I always found that only rice and chicken worked for her. Your girl may just have a sensitive tummy right now. Keep working at it, you will find what works for your girl!!

Just wanted to add even if you have any older pup, be sure any type of chew thing you give them (bully stick, rawhide, etc) is from the USA. Too many imported chew sticks are treated with chemicals that can cause terrible stomach upset. Also check your treats to make sure there is no Animal Digest or bi-product.

Some treats/foods use corn as a filler and that can be very hard on puppy (and kitten) tummies.

Hope the babies are feeling better soon.

Thanks Deb,  I did make sure her Bully Stick was made in the USA.  I dont think I will try it again for many months.

I have not used any treats with her yet.  We just use her same kibble for training...Hoping her tummy will feel better soon.  So we can use something more Yummy when we go to class in a couple weeks...

What might be a good training treat that would be easy on her belly?  I originally planned on Turkey hotdogs...But that was before all her Tummy issues.

Hey everyone, I've been reading your responses to Pam.  Do you think bullie sticks are the culprit to loose stool?  Axl has been having that problem for a few days now & I'm starting to think his beloved bullie sticks are to blame.  He only gets them at night when we're eating dinner or cleaning or need to distract him but can that small time frame affect his digestion?  He was at "puppy camp" for a week while we were on vacation and came back with normal poop but now that we've been home, his stool is loose again.

Thanks & hope everyone is feeling better
