Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Oh, it was so painful to have it done..I absolutely LOVED his puppy coat.. but the reality was with all the hiking/camping we have been doing lately he was just so miserable!  So, I took him to the groomer and told her to shave it all off!

I was worried he would look goofy but I still think he's adorable!  We went hiking yesterday and he seemed much more comfortable!  I am looking forward to his coat growing back..hopefully by the time it does it won't be as hot outside.

My Maggie (a little over a year) goldendoodle was shaved yesterday.  In a moment of weakness, I agreed.  I loved her long, fluffy, puppy coat too, but she hates the heat.  However, I am so sad with how she looks.  In addition, she hid all day once we came home.  She was so upset and embarrassed.  I couldn't get her to go out to the bathroom, eat treats, or play.  After several hours, she seemed back to herself though.

Chaucer looks adorable.  I love the big paws.

I am sure Maggie was more weirded out by the grooming process and your reaction of sadness than how she perceives she looks.  Porter hates getting groomed whether he gets a little trim or a big one.  Be happy--she'll pick up on it :-)

The main thing that shocked me is how skinny he looks!  He doesn't look too thin or anything but just compared to his fluff it was quite a shock.

I also agree that Maggie probably sees you as upset and so she is cowering because of it.  I don't think dogs are that self aware that they get embarrassed.  They are great at picking up on your reaction though and knowing something is "off" or "different" and that their mommy isn't completely happy about it!  I'm sure she's beautiful and will come around soon.

Chaucer just ran around in circles after getting groomed.  He felt different I think but didn't care about it.  He chased his tail for a good 5 minutes I guess to make sure it was still there.

Doodles do know when their owner isn't happy with a hair cut.  They are very sensitive to our voice and emotions.  No matter how much you are shocked or unhappy you must keep telling them how beautiful they look and give them lots of pats and hugs with kisses on the nose!  Skinny is right...we call Gracie Skinny Mini right now.  The legs look like twigs!
Chaucer looks adorable! They did a really nice job on his head, too. I was totally traumatized when Toby was shaved. He looked like a plucked chicken. (*gasp*) Fortunately, he didn't seem to mind it a bit. In fact, I think he liked the attention he got from it. Silly boy.
He looks super.  Really shiny and sleek!
I'm just glad he still looks like a doodle!
Lari, I think we are all at that point that the Doodles need a shaving down.  I did Gracie Doodle last week and she looks just like Chaucer.  He looks soooo happy and it is so much easier to deal with with all your activities.  At the moment I only have to comb Gracie's tail, head/ears and snout.  You will enjoy it. Tell Chaucer is is a handsome boy and kiss his nose for Gracie Doodle!
I think Chaucer looks wonderful. I think they all feel better in the summer with less hair and I find it so much easier.
My Zoey also acts differently and it seams that no hair = being allowed to jump. She only jumps when the hair is gone but don't worry, they will calm down soon.
He looks adorable
Chaucer looks adorable either way.  Living in Ireland the heat won't be too much of a problem here so I'm hoping to keep my dogs coat long(ish) without having to do a full shave though these could be famous last words!!! Only time will tell.
