Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for giving me advice on weather to purchuse a doggy door the first month.  You all are right in saying that a puppy should not be left unsupervised.  I went out today and bought a poochi bell.  My question tonight is what is the difference in a F1B standard goldendoodle and a F1B royal standard goldendoodle?  I came across this term on a website today.

Standard and royal refer to size. Royal comes from the poodle world and they are oversized. Technically it is not a recognized size. It's more of a term breeders use to get attention and communicate that they are breeding large to oversized standards.
In the Poodle world, if you see a breeder using the term Royal or Teacup, run don't walk away.
Amen, I came here to say this very same thing.
This is what I was trying to get across in a subtle way, but I appreciate your candor. Kind of thought you would speak up on that. Tks.
I am not sure what the height range is supposed to be, but the one my husband grew up with could rest his head comfortably on the dining room table (but he was so well trained I doubt he did it more than once or twice ;-).
There is no upper height limit for Standard Poodles. Anything over 15" at the shoulder is considered a Standard, period. "Royal" is a marketing gimmick.
According to the standard, anything over 17'' is a medium labradoodle and over 20"' is standard. I thought poodles were generally taller. WTD?
I don't know about the breed standards for labradoodles, but you can take the info about Poodle breed standards for heights to the bank, lol. Toys are under 10", miniatures are between 10 and 15", and Standards are 15" and up. No upper limit.
Labradoodles even have an upper limit of 23".
Where did you get this number?

The ALAA as "not over 25"" for Australians. There is not generally accepted club and standard for early gens or American lines.
Peri's breeder (reputable) uses the term when she knows most of the littermates will be huge (over 75 pounds is what she calls royal, I think).  I think it's more about being very upfront with potential families that their puppy can be very very tall and bigger than other doodles they have seen.  It's just a prediction.
Gee, I thought it was because a royal had blueblood.  :>)
