Oh my gosh-just getting to read this now but please let us know how he is doing and what they did? I would have freaked and took him to the ER right away but that's just me. I really pray that he's doing ok. I think I'll move ours to a higher cabinet in case they get bored one day!

UPDATE:

Thanks so much for ALL the advice and well wishes for my Louie.

After I got the link from April about the specifics of how to induce vomiting, I gave him the Hydrogen Perioxide and took him for a walk. Didn't work. I then gave him another dose and ...success! He vomited chunks(sorry for the graphic image) which I was happy to see actually since the meds were not yet absorbed. The poison control # said to watch him and bring him in to ER vet if he continues to vomit, or if he shows signs of disorientation, seizures, tremors.

They did say that it is difficult to OD to a toxic level of Heartgard since the dosage in the preventative is low compared to the therapeutic level used to treat actual Heartworm and Mange.

He slept...me not so much. He did vomit again once at 5:30 this morning and since he is part Billy Goat that eats everything....there was a plastic wrapper and foil from the Heartgard med. Geeezz...

He seems OK this morning...doing his normal things but my vet will call me today to check on him...she has 2 Labradoodles so she knows how special these Doods are!!!

A few things I learned:

The Heartgard + was up on the shelf in the kitchen cabinet...probably knocked down to the counter when "someone" went in there to look for a band aid....We will find a better place when we buy a new 6 month supply. Maybe a dresser drawer in my bedroom...or safe deposit box!

The Hydrogen Peroxide needs to be a fresh bottle or it may not work. First dose was from old bottle. Next dose was from new.

The pet poison control website has list of items to include in pet first aid kit...including fresh bottle of hydrogen peroxide. I will also print out ...How to induce vomiting from April's website. And any other instructions I come across.

DK came through for us last night and I really appreciate everyone's outpouring of advice, prayers and affection!!!

LOVE and Hugs,

Joan and Louie

I got on this morning to check on Louie. So glad to hear he is ok. I bought a Rubbermaid type container at Target that has locking handles and that is where I put all the dog's medicines. I keep it in my closet, but I don't think they could get it open and so far, never showed any interest. Anyway, just an idea. I have a 54 year old that "forgets" to pick things up when he knocks them over. Thanks for all the tips. I need to get a new bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide...thanks for the reminder.
I'm so happy that things turned out okay.  You must have been frantic.  Thanks also for this update...it seems many of us have been really worried.  This is a good reminder.  I keep my meds in a basket at the back of my kitchen counter.  My guys have never shown any interest in it, but you never know.  Murph could probably reach it if he really tried.  I'll be putting the basket inside an upper cabinet today.
I am so glad that Louie Is doing good. I read this last night and looked first thing this morning to see if you posted. I am thankful I found this wonderful site with all these nice and helpful members.
Wonderful news, Joan! So glad to hear Louie is doing well this morning. Hoping you can both rest today.
So glad to hear that Louie is alright. I think we all learned a little something here, thanks for the updates and for the info!
Great news!  Glad he is OK, and good to know about the "fresh" hydrogen peroxide.

I am soooo glad Louie is ok!  Very interesting about the peroxide!  I can't even imagine how old the bottle I have in there is.  I did buy one new bottle just before I had to give it to Hunter after she at a 1lb dark chocolate Dove Bar and I spilled the rest of it in my frenzy!  Going to add that to my grocery list now.  {{{HUGS}}}

Glad all is well!
Happy and relieved to hear that Louie is ok.  It is frightening when they get into things that can be dangerous.  My neighborhood has a lot of second homes that I check on in the Winter, and anti-freeze is placed in all the toilets, and I caught my Claire  drinking from one.  Fortunately, I had called Poison Control for something my Golden had swallowed, and knew to use the Peroxide.  I induced vomiting immediately, and called the Vet, and was told to watch for any more signs, and that is a nervous time.  I am glad that when Louie threw up the second time you could see what caused it.  I know you are relieved, and hope you can rest some today.
Whew!!!!!!
