Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have my thoughts and I'd like to know what others think. Why did you get a goldendoodle or a labradoodle? I'm curious. Thanks.

We got both! Our North American Retriever (goldendoodle/labradoodle mix) was the perfect solution to the whole 'my husband wanted another lab and I've always wanted a golden, but was sick of cleaning up dog hair' debate. We've only had her for 6 days, but she's so fantastic!!!!!!

She's adorable, Congratulations! I had always wondered if people ever bred LDs and GDs.
Congratulations your little girl is adorable. You are the only the second person I know with a NAR. The other one I know of came from Canada, where is yours from?
Manitoba - Blazing Star Doodles. Heather (Maya) has an NAR from Nikki as well. Lucy really is just an awesome dog. I've never been much of a dog person, but I am now. I'm sure that she's just really a calm pup and it helps that I'm home all of the time, but we've really only had a few very minor issues and those seem to have resolved themselves within a few days. She's almost 10 weeks old, mostly potty trained, knows basic commands, and stays fairly focused. I've been really impressed with her. My husband has been around puppies/dogs his whole life and he commented that she is the most calm puppy that he's ever seen. She's super friendly and not shy of anything - just totally laid back.

Oh! She has two brothers left in the event that you're interested ;-)
I have both. I started out with Labradoodles, loved them so much we decided to breed them and donate service dogs...then we heard about Goldendoodles...so we added our girl, Rosie. (To our family of Bayley, Lexie-sibling LDs- and Chase, the Poodle stud.)
We have since added more...and have bred wonderful puppies .. GDs, LDs and North American Retrievers.
I think that the most important thing is the parents...if you get good parents, you get good puppies!
I don't see a huge difference in our dogs, really. There is a certain "look" of a Goldendoodle, kind of a squint that they do...but other than that...no real difference. I love them all...including the Poodles!
We got a goldendoodle because I had a golden retriever growing up...and I so badly wanted another dog just like him, but could not deal with the hair seeing as how he would be inside a lot of the time. So I found the goldendoodle, along with just about every other doodle. We debated between the LD and the GD for a while and decided that we liked the look of the GD quite a bit better. Seems as though a lot of the pictures we saw of LDs tend to be a little more scruffy and less wavy/curly...although, of course there are exceptions to this. I just think the curly hair of the poodle mixes nicely with the longer hair of the golden. I also like the temperment of the Goldens over the Labs. Labs tend to be alittle more goufy, a little more hyper, and sometimes get a little too crazy for me. Goldens tend to be a little more mellow from what I've experienced. Either one would be a great addition to your family!! Just depends on what you're looking for.
I had heard of labradoodles first, but they seem to be very similar....I would be curious to know if someone has one of each and to know what they think are the differences. I have thought from pictures that the goldens seem to be or can be larger...?? Not sure if that is correct or not???
My husband and I had a sweet lab for only 3 years. My connection with her was honestly like a mom and a child. When we had to put her down due to cancer at age 3........my husband said we can get another dog. Well.....I did not want another lab, as I did not want to replace our Daisy......so we decided on a Goldendoodle.
We chose the GD over the LD because we were concerned that the LD coat would be to tight and short. I realize that it is a coin toss as to what you get anyway, but felt that our chances of having a doodle with longer curly hair, would be to get the GD. And ya know what............however her hair would have grown in, would have been ok!!! Because Doodles are the most awesome, lovable, sweet, caring, funny, talkative (yes....Rosie talks) intelligent dogs out there! And yes shedding was a concern also. Our Rosie sheds a bit but nothing like our lab did.
We love her to pieces!!!!!
We really only got a Goldendoodle because we came across a great litter of GDs first. We knew we wanted a Doodle and after a failed attempt at adopting a 1 year old LD boy (it's a long story but it ended up with the family backing out). After that we decided that it wouldn't be so bad adopting a puppy and I'm really glad we did. Our Kali was from the first litter we found that seemed like they were well raised, happy and healthy pups (there are a lot of backyard breeders and puppy mills in our area).
Our family had Goldens for many years--three and four at a time. Our last Golden died from cancer at age six. I first heard about Australian Labradoodles in 2001 and purchased one from Rutland Manor in Australian. It was love at first lick. Within weeks we ordered four breeding dogs from Rutland Manor. We chose Labradoodles because: I didn't know about Goldendoodles then; I wanted Labradoodles due to their hearty, health history. Sometimes I cannot tell the difference between my light colored Labradoodles and Goldendoodles. Both are loving, intuitive cuddle bugs.
We first heard about labradoodles about six years ago when we were looking for a companion for our standard poodle who had just lost his life companion. My brother-in-law told me about labradoodles and I fell in love at first sight. A few years later when the poodle was on his way out, we got a goldendoodle as a companion for the labradoodle. Searching for a puppy has really changed with the internet. I found both of my dogs on the internet and was very satisfied. Of course, you need to check out the breeders and beware of puppy mills. It worked for us.
Perfect explaination! Thanks for the post...
