Down 4 stairs.  I am an idiot and should have gated them off.  They are the stairs that go from our kitchen to a small landing that leads to the kids playroom.  Of course he would one day decide to follow the kids down there- didn't think he would be so soon though :(

I was out there helping them with something and heard a YELP/Bang.  Ugh my heart sank.  He wouldn't put pressure on it at all at first so I scooped him up and between my tears I rubbed his front leg.  I pressed on it in a few spots and he was completely calm.  Took him outside and he walked around then started to run- I made him stop and brought him back in.  He is walking on it, but limping slightly- or maybe I am imagining it

I seriously thought he broke his leg.  Talked to the vet who said that if he is putting weight down, walking, running its more thank likely just sore- and in a few days he should be back to his old self- Also said that most pups don't attempt stairs till they are at least 10-14 weeks old.  I still feel horrible and I am ultra paranoid that he is damaged for life.  :(

I hope Barkley is okay!!  Rosey wouldn't do stairs until she was like 6 months old!!  And in order to get to our garage we have to do a full set of stairs.  I thought I would be carrying her up and down those darn stairs for the rest of her life!!
Don't feel bad, accidents happen! I'm sure he's okay if he's walking fine now!
The day after we got Molly I slammed...SLAMMED...her front paw in the back door on accident!!
She was screaming and yelping and jumping around wildly. I was in a panic and I think that made her panic even more.
Oh my gosh, it broke my heart...I just knew I had broken her foot!!
I sat on the porch with her in my lap, tears in my eyes and she just sat in my lap trembling.
I calmed down and got up to call the vet and its as if as soon as I calmed down, so did she...she jumped up and started running around beside me, trying to get me to throw her ball!!
I watched her for a few minutes and she acted fine.
I never called the vet...and thankfully she is just fine now.
However, honestly, you would have thought I had killed her the way she was screaming like a child!!
Don't beat yourself up! Just give Barkley a hug and learn from the accident, I'm sure he's fine :-)
PS. I feel like I should add that I did NOT meant to slam her paw in the door, I didn't realize she was behind me when I went to close the door.
Now, I watch her like a hawk when I shut doors, lol.

ugh I feel sick to my stomach.  He is sleeping and its taking everything in me to not wake him up to watch him walk around and make sure he is ok.

I know, it's not a good feeling when your puppy gets hurt and you feel like you could have prevented it.
Just let him rest and don't stress over it, he will sense your stress.
Keep an eye on him when he is awake and is walking and if you really think he's limping, call the vet, but pups are more limber than you would believe!

Oh- I should add that Molly ALSO fell off of a rock wall (Im REALLY going to start sounding like a bad doodle mom...is there a doodle DSS?) and landed on her chin! She jumped right back up and took off running, I had to chase her down to look at her chin and in her mouth...she was fine.
I swear, puppies will give you a heart attack, just like kids will!!
I accidentally closed the door on Quincy's leg when he was a pup, oh the terrible noises, and I was sure I had broken his leg or ruptured a tendon. He wouldn't walk on it for a few minutes. Guess where we were going, to the vet for his very first check up. I had the vet check him while we were there and he was fine. That was 2 years ago, he still watches the door closely and it had to be wide open for him to go through it. I guess it left a lasting impression. Don't  feel bad, these things happen no matter how careful and vigilant we are. I bet he'll be fine when he wakes up from his nap. Keep us posted.
I always worry about dog's tails and children's fingers getting caught in doors. Especially when the wind slams them shut. It makes me shudder to think about it...
Oh, poor Barkely! You're probably a lot more traumatized than he is. This pups are pretty durable!
I turned my back on Izzy and Lucca playing when Izzy was about 10 weeks, heard the yelp. She limped into the room holding up her front leg. It was 10pm and I was freaking out thinking I had to go to emergency. She was fine. I think it hurt for a little bit but I think she was more scared than anything else. Izzy conquered the stairs a lot earlier (3-4 months) than Lucca did. Now at 7 months she flies off the last 4 steps and it still freaks me out!!!
Barkley is just adorable! He reminds me of our Coco when she was a small puppy. She's now almost a year old.
I'm sure you feel just awful, but I bet he'll be just fine, especially since he was willing to run around on it so soon after.

It's just like having another baby in the house!!
Thank you all so much for calming my nerves.  He seems to be fine- ate all his dinner, walked around the house etc.  I could have sworn it was his front leg bothering him but now he is hesitating with his back leg when getting up.  I love how I can come here and get your advice so quickly.  It helps a ton!

Puppies are like rubber balls, they will bounce right back :0) Gosh that sounds corny but I think it's true.  I am constantly running into Molly when I turn around...one minute she is in front of me then abracadabra she is behind me and I am falling over LOL

I agree with Megan though he was probably more startled than hurt.  Let us know how he does.
