I read in a breeder's website (who only sells standard sizes)  said that he refuses to breed mini/mediums b/c something bad happens to the dogs and they come out nippy, aggressive and prone to bad behavior.  He didn't go into too much details but I think he is implying that - when you "force" a big dog breed into a smaller breed - you are negatively affecting the dog's behavior.

Of course - you can't believe everything you hear - but I'm very curious if anyone else here have heard anything about this?

I don't think that idea that has ANY merit.  Obviously there are some practical issues when breeding a large to a small dog and possibly some conformation issues if the dogs have shorter legs or whatever.  But realistically there are plenty of GREAT 'mutts' out there who didn't follow any guideline when they bred and have a good temperament because they were lucky and came from parents with good temperaments.  The key is what are the parents like?  If one of the dogs was nippy, aggressive, and prone to bad behavior I would avoid anything bred from that parent. It's not like we're mixing species so nothing magically happens when a smaller dog is bred to a larger dog unless there's a huge mismatch in physical size (then it's a physical issue not a temperament one) or at least one dog who shouldn't have been bred based on temperament.  So I think what you read/heard is completely inaccurate.

Adina's post seems right on target.  Her thoughts would be backed up, too, by all of the posts about the many gentle and non -aggressive mini and medium Doodles here on DK...my own, included!

Absolutely!

And a cute one at that!
Those of us with those nippy, aggressive smaller doods like Bandit, Seda and Ned - that breeder really needs to be cautious cuz we might release them to attaaacckkkkk.
