Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know a few people have posted about their doodles getting spayed here recently, so I won't ask for any advice...thanks to DK, I loaded up on advice and tips from the other posts.

However, I do want to ask...did anyone notice a difference in their doodle once they were altered? I didn't give that much thought, until I was telling a friend at work about it and he said it could change her personality.

I felt sooo bad last night, Molly drinks a LOT of water, and she always wants a drink before we crate her for the night. Last night, I couldn't give her any water due to vets rules for being spayed today. She started making a little dry cough noise and it broke my heart. I wanted to just give her a little bit, just to wet her tongue but DH said "NO"...
then this morning, she was really acting thirsty, even running to the toilet and sniffing the lid.
It broke my heart. DH said she kept acting like she had dry mouth on the ride to the vet clinic....
did anyone elses doodle have a hard time not drinking before the surgery?

I'm so ready to get her home today. I took up all of her balls and frisbee this morning after she left, so she wouldn't be tempted to run around. I sat in the floor with her last night and just held her (as best I could, she was wanting to play) because I was sad for her, lol, am I crazy!!??
I wish I wasn't so nervous, but we actually had a friend who lost their husky when they went to get her spayed, it just never woke up from surgery...and now I keep thinking about that :-(

Okay..sorry to ramble. Just needed a place to calm my nerves.

Well, Molly sure was loopy and drowsy last night.
She tried to get up and act like herself when I came in from work...but it lasted all of two seconds and she was sitting back down just looking at me with sad eyes.
I got down in the floor to lay with her and ended up staying there for awhile, she just wanted me to rub her. She would flip over on her back, like she wanted me to rub her belly :( but I didn't want to hurt her.

I will say...I'm concerned about her stiches. They don't look all that neat. I was going to take a picture of them and post them here...I may still do that. It looks like the pinched up too much skin when they stiched her. I don't know how to explain it, but it just looks crooked and like they pinched together too much skin, there are little rolls of skin pinched together under the stiching.
Does any of that make sense or sound normal?
They also didn't tattoo her, I'm used to dogs getting a little mark on their belly when they get spayed so that future owners/vets know that the dog has been spayed. I guess not everyone does that?
I'm going to keep an eye on her, I hate her being so sad looking.

She did take forever to pee last night. DH was worried, but I told him that a few of you guys had experienced that and not to worry just yet. Sure enough, she peed before she went into her crate for the night.
She's not been real hungry, but she loves the peanutbutter in her kongs and her bully sticks...so that's good.

I'll keep you all updated :)
Thanks for being there for me to calm my nerves yesterday!!!
Nope, nothing was painted on her or over her stiches. She also didn't come home w/ a cone OR pain meds?!
but she isn't acting likes she's in pain, she was just acting tired...and she hasn't tried to lick at her belly. However, I'm keeping my eyes on her and so is DH when I'm at work.
We had to purchase a cone.  I think our Vet gave us pain meds for one day.  I have never even heard that they tattoo dogs when spayed.  They didn't mention that, and I hadn't read anything on that either - so she did not get a tattoo.  I think instead of using the cone, some people use tee shirts.  We did use the cone for a few hours but I felt terrible because she seemed so sad so we took it off, and trained her to not lick the stitches.  So every time she wanted to lick the stitches she started walking really fast in circles... (lol)
Well, Molly is back to her crazy self :-)
DH actually said "I kind of miss her lazy side!" ...hahaha.
I'm just glad she's back and feeling okay.
I'm keeping an eye on her stiches, they still look okay...but not neat, very crooked. It's hard to keep her from laying down outside, she loves to lay in the dirt, I don't want it to get infected.

Other than that, I've got one energetic puppy on my hands...and let me tell you, she's upset we have not been walking for the past two days. I guess I've got a lot of walking to make up this weekend :-)
I'm glad that Molly is her old (feisty!) self this morning!  I'm sure she'll keep you on your toes today :)
