Hi everyone

My Lausch is 31 weeks (8 months) and is sleeping ALOT! She sleeps at night with us in bed until we let her out at 5:00 am Then she does her jobs and eats a bowl and kibble. Then we put her in her covered kennel and she sleeps, and sleeps until I have to wake her up. For the last 5 to 6 days I've been having to waking her up at around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon!!!! Sometimes thru out the past 8 months Lauscha will sleep this long only if she's been to daycare or I don't re kennel her after her 5:00 am meal... Once she's up she doesn't seem to be as active as she was a week ago. She's not even getting walks everyday to get her tired. My daughter suggest it's the weather FINALLY getting hot. She's been drinking more only because it's been hotter out and her eatting is some what down. Not by much. Has anyone had a 8 month old puppy do this??? I'm starting to get worried about her.

We went through a period like this. Is she also growing alot? We mind of put it together that whenever we noticed a sizable growth spurt Snicks had been sleeping alot. As long as she is eating and drinking and going potty normal they're probably is nothing to worry about. We ran to the vet so many times his first year for every thing. It made us feel better but was probably a waste of $. Next time you go in for checkup or shots mention it but I bet it is because she is growing! Enjoy the down time while you have it.
Vern and Fudge sleep a lot more in the hot weather. They go out, chase each other for about 10 minutes and come in and take a long nap. Vern was one in January and Fudge was two in December. It could be the heat. Hope someone else chimes in. Good luck.
...hmmm could be a growth spurt or the hot weather, I agree.
I wish my molly would sleep a lot, lol...shes a tornado during the day. Shouldn't complain though, she sleeps great through the night!!
I agree...could be growth spurt or heat. Lola turns 4 this summer, and we've noticed she goes through this EVERY spring. Change of weather, heat...maybe even some allergens?? Who knows....I wouldn't worry unless her eating/drinking/bathroom routine changes...before you know it, she'll be back to her spunky self!!! (P.S. this is a good time to do things like shampooing carpet, or anything else you need to do around the house!!!)

Kathy does Lauscha receive any topical flea and tick preventative or heartworm preventative? Suzann's Bandit recently had quite a downturn after getting his monthly meds so I was wondering if Lauscha could have had a similar reaction?

It wouldn't hurt to take her temp if you can and see if that is normal. It does seem like a LOT of sleeping for her age even though the weather is warmer. As long as she is still eating and everything else seems to be functioning properly I would just continue to monitor her. Hopefully she will perk up soon. Keep us posted!!

Yes she does but that was on the 16th of last month. Good to know and watch the next time. One never knows. Great idea about the temp too. I took it last night and it was normal. I'm going to call the vet today and find out what she things. THANKS for all the help. Kathy & Lauscha

That does seem like a lot of sleep for a puppy-did you call and ask a vet? It could be the weather too.
Is she actually sleeping or just laying around?  Dogs lay around a lot but become alert as soon as something interesting occurs.
Oliver is 11 months old and Sasha 20 months old.  They sleep much of the day away unless I am outside on the weekends and in and out of the house alot, they will wake up when I come in but then go lay back down.  They run around and play a lot in the morning so durinng the day they need to re-charge their batteries for when I get home from work and all hell breaks loose with playing, running, ball chasing, etc. etc. -  I think Lausch is fine, she is a puppy and puppies need lots of rest to grow happy and strong adults :)
