When we get overheated running around in hot weather, we often put a wet towel around our necks. And when our dogs get hot, we often do the same for them hoping it will help them in the high heat. Better to dampen their paws. It's the paws that help a dog release heat, so dip those pads in cool (but not cold) water for a quick pick up. You can even rub the paws with an alcohol wipe in a pinch, and the wipes are easy to carry on walks and hikes in your pocket.

This was todays daily dog tip.  Has anyone heard of this before?

Trevor has a kiddie pool and I have a deeper garden pond that he gets into.  He never lays down...he just wants his legs and paws wet.  Even in 95 degrees weather.  So I believe it.

What does the alcohol rubs do?

Tips for dipping paws on your walk : equipment required, one bottle of water and one poop bag, pour the water into the bag and dip those paws. I also use poop bags(the unscented) for giving Quincy a drink without wasting a lot of water, or any plastic bag will do.
never heard of the paws....heard of the tummy and chest!!!! Good thing we got Lola a little kiddie pool for the summer!!! Now all we have to do get her to go in.....
Should we be lucky enough to ever have a heat wave again I will definitely remember that one.. It makes a lot of sense.
Sandy, the daily tip comes from Dogster.com.
Great Tip...Louie has been soooo hot the past few days due to the intense heat in PA the last few days. It makes sense since they sweat through their pads on their paws...I love the smell of his punky feet..hehehe
That makes perfect sense Tina. Maddie has a hard plastic kiddie pool and I put a few inches of water in it on those hot humid days we have here in Ontario - she loves it and I often find her just standing in it to cool off.
