Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I had to tell you all this and tell me if I am nuts.  Today we took Oliver over to one of my DH's clients that trains dogs for retuning injured soldiers.  she has mostly goldens and labs,( 5) of them and they are just beautiful.  she has 2 other trainors that work with her, and her home and the kennels where she keeps these guys is absolutely spotlessand fully air conditioned  She has three of her own dogs that live in the house with her, very well trained, I might add.  Well Oliver was kind of shy there, I was kind of surprized.  He loved her property, fenced in and plenty of room to run and play, which he did, but he kept looking to Ira and me to make sure we were there. When he was just sitting and resting after his running, she asked me if she could give him a small piece of cheese.  She sat down on the ground with him, and offered him the cheese, he looked at her, then at me, and then he shook his head no, I almost fainted...For him to refuse cheese????..Never, but then I took the cheese and offered it to him and he gave me his paw, sat and took the cheese.  She offered him another piece, and he looked at us again, and shook his head no???Could he really be saying no???..We were floored...his biggest concern was that we weren't leaving him, and he was very happy to get back in the car with us...Very Interesting...She is going to come to our house and do some training with him for us, and my DH is going to do some accounting for her in return...

Cheryl, have you ever boarded him? It really does sound like he was afraid he was going to be left there.

I'd give anything to have seen him politely shaking his head "No thanks, no cheese for me" and meanwhile he's thinking, "I'm not falling for this, she's just trying to distract me from my mom & dad so they can sneak away."

When we go away, I have had the same person taking care of my dogs for the last 10 yrs.  They both love to go to her house, she has two boys that they play with, and she is the breeder that we got our aussies from.  she takes such good care of them, they see her and are ready to jump in her car, they play with her dogs, and they live in the house with her and her family.  Now that she has moved 4 hrs away it is getting very difficult for her and I to pick up the dogs going and coming.  We are going up to Orlando for a week in July, and she lives about 45 min from there, so she will meet us, and the same to bring them home, but I am trying to find someone closer to take care of them for Nov. when we go away again. I will not board them in a kennel, Rennie is too old for that, and Oliver would be too scared, so my search continues...Karen I so wish I had a video camera, we were all floored when he did it twice..I am so spoiled with the woman I have now, and I have a list that has to be met before I would leave them with anyone.  I would also like to have someone stay here in my house with them, so that their routine isn't changed, but if I can't I need references and I have to see how they react with whoever it is...
That just sounds so precious, he just wasn't comfortable in this strange place.
I guess that was the truth Donna, but when he refused the cheese, and shook his head no twice, we were floored...But I think Karen is right, he thought we were going to leave him, and he wasn't buying the cheese routine, lol...
That is so sweet!  I agree it sounds like he was nervous.  I bet Oliver will take a piece of cheese when she comes to the house.
I am sure he will, lol, he lives for cheese...lol
We need to start a group for dogs who love cheese, Cheesedoodles. I am guessing it would have the largest membership of any group.
Uh oh, Fudge and Vern have never had a piece of cheese.....
Mine either...they don't get human food, and if something (food) falls on the ground they sniff, and walk away! Very wierd! Our last dog was nicknamed "Hoover". Cheesedoodles is very cute tho..lol
Cheesedoodles, hahaha! Mine will join.
We call Murphy a Cheesehead.  He cannot think at all if cheese is around

What about Cheesey Doodle Moms? I'd do anything for cheese too. Oliver is a smart dog.
