So, yesterday my sister and I went swimming at about 2 pm. I took Huff outside with us because he loves it so much when he chases the splashes coming from the pool. (not the best idea) He did that for a good hour and he got tired and hot so I put him back inside and went back in the pool and my mom called us in about 15 min later or less saying that he was lethargic and wouldn't stand up. I decided to give him a cold bath to cool him down and when he was done with his bath, he was shivering so I wrapped him up in his blanket (also not the best idea) and when my dad got home, he shivered a lot and it turned out that he was actually hot and his gums were pale so we gave him watermelon and that seemed to help and since he was still shivering and lethargic, we took him to the emergency vet and they said it was most likely that he had heat stroke but we did a good job of keeping him cool. My poor baby boy could have died! He is okay temperature wise but now he has blistery, raw, and peeling paws that are going to take at most, two weeks to heal. The vet gave us antibiotics (to prevent infection in his paws) and pain killers for him. He is not going to be walking very much for the next few weeks and when he does walk outside, he will be wearing socks. If you guys want to follow his healing process, I will probably be writing a few blogs about it. I feel like it is all my fault (which it really was) and I should have thought it through now.  think he will get better sooner than two weeks (his birthday party is going to be in 10 days) Thanks everyone for reading this...

I'm so sorry to hear about Huff's heat stroke and burned paws. Hoping he recovers quickly!
Thanks:)
I didn't mean to post this twice, I thought that the first attempt didn't work so I posted again. So sorry doodlers that you have to read the same post again if you did. Maybe it is good that I posted again for anyone that missed it last night can see it today and beware of heatstroke. I think I will leave it up and not delete it.
Poor Huff but he loves you anyway.  Good thing is that he doesn't blame you and he will heal quickly.  Wow, we are not nearly that hot down here in San Diego.  I do know that dogs feet are not happy on hot cement or especially asphalt.  Best buy some Muttluks at Petsmart to keep on hand for the future.  Gracie Doodle has quite a few pair and has often worn them when we are around foxtails or hot cement or has an owie.  Give Huff a big hug!
Ya it was probably about 90 degrees today is even hotter. San Diego has nice weather.:) I tried to cool down the cement for him by splashing water on it too. Maybe that made it worse? Good idea. Huff has some boots but they don't stay on quite right. I will:)

Thanks for posting this.  It just goes to show how quickly something like this can happen in hot temps to animals as well as people.  Hope Huff is well soon!

You are welcome. I thought it would also serve as a good lesson. Me too:) Thanks:)
Sorry to hear about Huff's woes.  But thank heavens you did the things you did and took to the vet.
Aww, poor Huff.  I am sure he will bounce back quickly.  Good for you for posting your "mistake."  You could have felt embarassed and not want anyone to know, but instead you let everyone know as a lesson.  Alot of people would make the same mistake without thinking.  Thanks Taylor!
Thanks:) I hope no other doodles end up with heat stroke this summer. They say only 50% of dogs survive. Huff was lucky.
Oh so sorry to hear about Huff. Wishing him a speedy recovery. It is all too easy for doodles, and people, to overheat.
Oh my, poor Huff.  Guinness and Murph hope he starts feeling better soon.  Murph knows all about sore pads.
