A week ago I noticed my 6mo puppy's bottom canine felt chipped and light brown in coloring.   I've searched the internet but have not found anything similar.   The top of the tooth is white, the bottom is white but the center of it feels like its been chipped (its more narrow in the middle) and thats where its brown as well (all the way around the tooth).   I don't know if he got it caught on something (my other dog's tag perhaps?) but its definitely chipped (in a very weird way).  Should I be concerned enough to take him to the vet or am I overreacting?     I hate the idea of him being so young with a bad tooth.   Thanks for your input.

Why don't you post a picture. At any rate I don't think rushing to the vet would do any good whatever it is. I'd wait til the next visit.
I'd have the vet look at it, too.
HI Julie. My dood needed dental work and I know a good Vet dentist in the Seattle area if you end up needing one.  Hope it turns out OK but I'd have it looked at.

Hi Jeanne - yes, please forward his information to me.  I'm going to my local vet today but have already started researching specialists in the area and there is one in Woodinville so I'm thankful for that as there are currently less than 100 board-certified veterinary dentists in the US.    http://www.vetdentists.com/

I hope I'm overreacting but so thankful that if I need to seek further help, the one vet dentist that covers WA, OR, ID & MT is within 30 miles from me is a real blessing.   I'd still like to hear your referral too.  My appt is at 2:30pm so I'll let everyone know what I find out.

Thanks,

Julie

Dr Gregg DuPont at Shoreline Veterinary Dental Clinic was great but if your vet recommends the Woodinville place that would certainly be closer.  I remember Boomer from a doodle romp but this must be Milo with the problem.  Hope it is something simple, Tura's issues cost about $2000!  Good  Luck.
Good luck-hope it's not too serious.
Definately need to get to the vet-although not an emergency. Yes he is very likely in pain and is not showing it. At 6 months it is most likey an adult tooth too. GET XRAYS. Been through teeth issues and my vet just went to a dental symposium because of it. The biggest thing, and what will save you money in the long run is get the Xray. I just rescued an elderly pomerianian whose breath smelled HORRID and his teeth were brown and caked with tartar...13 teeth were removed and he feels SOO much better (and yes he can still eat fine!). The vet by taking X Rays did not waste time trying to "save" teeth that were dying and would have required additional work in the future. He also told me that though he did not show it this dog was indeed in a lot of pain and had been for years!!
Thanks everyone for your replies.  I took Milo to his vet yesterday and he was over-the-top excited so it was difficult to even see the tooth.   However, the vet did say it looked like it was just chipped enamel and still viable.   She could sense that I was just not comfortable with his tooth looking that way and NEEDED to be sure that it wasn't something more serious so gave me a referral to a Vet Dentist (that so happens to be the same Doc that a DK member referred me to).  I called them today and have an appt in a few weeks.   IF it is a cosmetic issue (brown where it chipped off) I'll pay to have it filled (or whatever it is they can do) to restore it back to its pearly white but I'm thankful that they'll do a thorough exam (with x-ray) to determine if there is further damage and then we'll proceed from there.    Thanks for your help everyone!
