I got a big shock tonight.  Maddie was outside in our fenced in backyard tonight and when I went to the sliding glass door to let her in......yuck.....she had something in her mouth with a long rat like tail.  She seemed so proud of herself  I turned around and got one of the boys cause I didn't want to open the door.  She had a small opossum in her mouth.  They are so ugly.  She dropped it on the step and came in the house.  It's alive but it's not moving.  Don't know if it's just playing possum or really hurt.  Will be checking a little later.

Maddie the hunter.....a young rabbit a few weeks ago and now a opposum.  Gonna have to keep my eyes on her and we live in the Chicago suburbs.

The little guy is not on the step now but I'm not letting her outside for awhile in case it's hurt.  Sure hope it's not  hurt or hiding in the yard.

When your doodle brings you a present......what have you done??

Grateful not to have received any presents like snakes, opposum, rabbits, birds yet. Gifts of vomit, poop, pee, but no critters. gross.
My cat used to hunt the racoons when we lived in Chicago. Well racoons AND the lady down the street that was afraid of cats. So weird how he knew that.
Have not received any special critter gifts from Rua.  I'll just have to keep telling her my favorite gifts from her are Doodle Kisses!
LIKE!
Elaine, I'm usually cursing the fact that I live in a townhouse without a fenced in yard for Bo to romp around freely in but the thought of him coming in with a 'creature' in his mouth makes me cringe and glad that ain't gonna happen!!

yea, I've been dreaming of a backyard lately, but yikes. I guess this is another benefit to not having one.

Wlson has not given me any presents  :-(  But that is okay,  Really it is

No presents for us yet-if there is it will be a chipmunk-can't get rid of them they keep digging under our fence! Possibly a bird.

Anything would be better than the gift you received! YUCKO!

I'm going to start a new thread about what you can do in this situation, so lots of people see it.  We've got hunting dogs here on this site and need to be prepared.

You have my sympathy--over time I am getting used to this aspect of dog ownership--but it is not my fave part.

Oh, ew.....I don't know WHAT I would have done in your place. We had an iffy situation with a bird a little while ago, but luckily it hopped away (and the verdict is still out on what role Lola played in the whole thing....) Maybe send the boys out to investigate the yard and get the "all-clear"??

Sedona is not our gift giver - but her kitty brother, Hercules, is.  Even though he's slowed down with age, we still get the occasional gopher, baby squirrel, etc.  Sometimes the whole thing, but often just the guts and the head.  I'm really squeamish, so "daddy" gets to deal with the remains.

Many years ago, while I was home alone during summer vacation, my cat brought in a mouse, still alive, but obviously in shock.  I called my husband to ask him to come home to take care of it.  His response went something like, "You've got to be kidding me!", so I asked one of the construction workers next door (of course he was a perfect stranger) to come and get the critter for me.  He did, but my husband nearly killed me when he found out!!!
