OK Kathy, you got me going! After an obsessive internet search, I just ordered some feathers and crimping beads from Etsy (cool shopping website BTW, that's all I need!) My DH says Stella will look like a hippie girl, nothing wrong with that!

Had to laugh at this one.  I am also a member of an outdoor forum and there are bunch of guys on there complaining that this feather trend is eating away at the fly-fishing (fly-tying) business.  Evidently it is the same feathers that are used to tie flies for fly-fishing and the fly shops are having a hard time stocking the feathers since this new fashion trend has them in the ladies (and now dogs) hair!  :-)
