Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Just got our first goldendoodle yesterday.  Her name is Bailey and she is 11 weeks old...I think she is a beauty.

So far she is doing great with the potty training.  Only 1 accident and that was yesterday when we first got home.  Crate training was a little "ruff" last night LOL.  she cried for about 20 minutes the first time.  then fell sound asleep.  She woke up at 130 and I got her up and took her out to potty and she went right away.  I put her back in her crate and she cried for 30 minutes this time.  I was so afraid she would get over heated that I got up, got a throw and pillow off the couch and layed down on the hardwood floor next to her crate and the little stinker fell fast asleep while I was wide awake on the cold floor.LOL

Hopefully tonight will be a little better.  I am giving her a tee shirt of mine that I have been wearing today and an alarm clock that ticks. Putting the clock on the outside of the crate...We'll see what happens..

I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone here at DK....

Welcome!  Bailey is beautiful.  Harley slept thru night by night three with us.  Hopefully Miss Bailey will do the same for you. Harley is our first doodle and is now 5 1/2 months.  We have found this site to be a wealth of information, as we are finding goldendoodles are unique in some of their quirkyness (sp?)

Hi Kathy - When I saw your post about Harley being 5 1/2 months old I had to check out the pictures on your page because our goldendoodle Murphy is the same age! Harley is so cute!! Ours is quite golden retrieverish but a great dog and we're having fun with her. I though we were crazy to get a puppy at our age (early 60s) but it's been a blast.
Murphy is a cutie also.  I am sure I'm just a little prejudice, but I think goldendoodles are the bomb!  lol
welcome!!!

Thanks for all the great advice.  Last night was more of the same... we are going to give it a few more nights to see what happens.  If it doesn't get better by then I am going to put her crate next to the bed.

Today I started introducing her to her crate during the day  using treats and keeping her in it for a few minutes at a time.  She actually went in it on her own today for a little bit.

Yeah....

Decided to keep her crate in the living room.  Instead of letting her cry at all and getting herself worked up, last night I layed down with her for only 5 minutes then went to bed..  she did great, slept all night and no accidents in her crate.

I think we are going to be OK

WooHoo!!!

Yay!!!!

Way to go Bailey!

Welcome to DK and congrats on your new puppy, she is gorgeous.  I think putting a blanket over the crate definitely helped Riley and being beside the bed was good too.  One thing I didn't ever do was respond to the crying which only lasted for a few minutes for the first few nights.  I did lift him at 3am and carried him outside then straight back in to his crate with no talking.   Now he goes into his crate happily even during the day and at night I say bed and he walks in and sleeps from 11-7 with no problems.  When he wakes in the morning he just plays with his toys until I hear him and open the door for him to go out to potty.  The first two weeks are pretty exhausting but it definitely gets easier.
this is welcooming news for us soon to be furbaby mamas.
Congratulations. Enjoy your new puppy. Welcome to DK.
