Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone!

We just joined Doodle Kisses and can't believe I haven't done this before now.  Tate and I live in Louisville, Ky with our 3 year old Goldendoodle Kahlua (female) and our 2 year old Shitpoo Paxton (male).   I had been procrastinating about getting a dog and had been in contact with a breeder for about 6 months when Dee called and said that a woman who had got a puppy decided she didn't want the "hassle" of a dog and asked if Dee could find another home for the puppy.  I agreed to meet Dee on here way back home from picking up the dog in a Feeder's Supply parking lot at 10pm.   The puppy jumped out of the backseat right into my daughter's arms, we knew then that she had found a home.  My daughter still teases that it was a "shady" deal meeting up in a dark parking lot, exchanging a "dog" for "cash".  LOL!  By the way the previous owner called her Bailey, I made the comment, I like Kahlua better than Bailey's Irish Cream, hence the name stuck.

As you can tell by the picture she has all her hair.   People tell me to "shave" her, which I really don't want to do.  We live in KY and it's pretty hot and humid here.  She is definitely an air conditioned dog, but I feel that all that hair during the summer may be bad for her when she is out.  Any suggestions?  Should I shave her?  Should I just cut her very short?  Not sure, any suggestions would be welcomed.

I definitely like the before picture better.  While she is cute no matter what, I think there is no 'style' to her current cut.  They just trimmed her all over.  However, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the most important thing is do you like it?  If not, then I would not go to that groomer again because they didn't make a mistake on an area, they just cut her all over.
Miss Gracie, what big eyes you have! Marion, it really depends on did you got what you asked for.
I think Gracie looks cute. Like a puppy!
I'll never understand why a groomer can't just say "No, I'm not going to do what you are asking me to do because it takes too long and I won't make any money".  I just don't get why they just stand there and listen to you then go do a cut like this which they can do in 15 minutes rather than put the effort into what you want.  If it takes longer, then charge more, but give the customer what they asked for.  Oh don't get me started.
Welcome!!  We ALWAYS keep Peri short from May to September - keep her at about an inch.  SHe is much more comfortable. We are in TN and it's hotter than hell right now.
Hi Celeste,  It has been miserably hot here in Texas.  I still don't plan to cut Harley.  Someone teased me the other day about give it a year and you'll be thinking otherwise...we'll see, I can be pretty determined. lol.   Harley is an air conditioned dog also, doesn't last long outside and plops down in front of the small fan by his crate when he comes in....but ohh how he will love fall and winter.  BTW....Harley is a Kentucky dog.  Breeder lives in south/west Kentucky
