Hi:

I need help! Nelson had several shots last week as he was staying in a kennel over night. So he had Kennel cough, needed his rabies and the tick shot. He was in the kennel and then Tuesday had his first haircut. My husband on Tuesday gave hime frontline that the vet precribed. The last few days I noticed his nose was kinda dirty and I rryed to wipe it off. I noticed his nose felt very hot. He is also 5 months old and teething. Can any of these things mentioned make his nose hot and dry?

The vet was closed today and I hoping to be reissured.

Thank you,

Sharon

As long as he is eating, drinking and acting normally I wouldn't worry about his nose being hot and dry. I would also expect reactions to shots sooner.

He had frontline on Tuesday and I noticed it yesterday! Will call vet when they are open tomorrow! Thanks for your help!
I would assume that if he has kennel cough he isn't feeling well.  When we had a dog with kennel cough the only shot he got was rabies until he was well.  But he was groomed and Frontlined during that time.  Our little guy was very quiet during this time and actually his nose was hot.
I think she means that he got his kennel cough vaccine, not that he actually has kennel cough.
Oh, my mis-reading again.  Glad that he didn't have it.

Jack's nose gets warm and dry on occasion too. It doesn't usually last. As long as he is acting normal I think that is fine..Eating, drinking and playing.

That is a lot of shots to give a five month old puppy all at once, in my unprofessional opinion. I try to space out his shots, his heartworm, and flea and tick medications just so it is not system overload... just my half cent.

It is normal after all the shots! If he is acting normal he is probably fine!!

I agree with others- as long as he's eating and drinking normally, I wouldn't be worried about his nose. Sometimes Sunny's nose gets warm and dry, but that's totally normal. It's a myth that warm, dry noses always mean that the dog is sick. Sometimes it just means they're not smelling anything delicious and haven't licked their noses in a while!

That is a lot of vaccines to give a young pup at once, though. I usually space them out for Sunny. She only gets 1-2 vaccines at a time, and her heartworm/flea treatments are on different days as well.

Since he got 3 vaccines, kenneled overnight, groomed, and given flea treatments all within a short period of time, he might be a bit stressed out and overwhelmed.

Thanks for all the advice! I do feel better........

I know you feel better, but wanted to clarify that according to my vet, you cannot always tell by just the nose if a dog is feeling okay.  She says sometimes their noses are just dry and there is no explanation!

She said to concentrate on whether they are eating, drinking and behaving like their normal selves. Furthermore, their GUMS are a better indicator that nose for sickness. Pale, tacky-colored gums usually indicate dehydration and other sickness.  You can tell a lot by the gums.

I'm sure its nothing to worry about, but we would call the vet for assurance when they open. You can probably google it too. Make sure he's drinking enough!
