Hi all.  I'm debating the pro/con of shelling out for a les poochs brush for my pooches (sorry, couldn't resist).  I've read the boards, and see that many folks love the brush.  What is the difference between the les pooch and a regular slicker (which both my dogs loathe, so another reason I'm hesitating to buy les poochs).  BTW, I've already received advice from Kemp on which one to purchase, should I decide to do so.  Thanks!

I found the slicker next to useless on my curly dood....took forever to get to the skin. The les pooch is amazing...cut my grooming time in half! Not sure why it makes such a difference - but it does. I first just got the small one (trying to save money) but I loved it so much I now have both sizes. Worth every penny...or dollar! Magic hated the slicker - I think it pulled too much. Now when he sees me get out his kit he gets so excited and jumps on the table and lies down.

Good doggie.... :)

Pippin still tries to play/chew on the brushes.  He is getting better, but still a 2 person job for now.  One to brush and one to distract.  I will purchase a les poochs, but need to save some$ for a while first.  :)
I have two F1 Goldendoodles. Kona has a fleece/wool coat. When I got the Les Pooches brush I was stunned at the difference it made. I would use a slicker and comb trying to get through his beautiful ears and not succeed. The minute I unpacked the Les Pooches brush I tried it on Kona's ears and it went through them like butter! Swipe swipe and his ears were perfect! It's possible I could get along without it for my smooth puppy but I use it on him too and it's great.
Thanks Bonnie.  Pippin has a mixed coat right now (7 months old).  It is partly wavy and then a stripe of poodly curls along his spine.  Kemp told me that the brush would work well on our maltese girl too.
Cubbie HATED being groomed with a regular slicker brush...actually he HATED being groomed period.  The only thing that he would mildly tolerate was me using a comb.  He would constantly nip, dance around, and show his teeth every single time I tried to groom him.  It didn't matter if I used treats or only did small sections at a time.  Nothing helped.  I got my green les poochs brush in the mail last week and used it last night for the first time and Cubbie just stood there.  I was done in a quarter of the time (partly because the brush cut right through the tangles and partly because Cubbie wasn't fighting me, which is actually small miracle).  I didn't really want to spend the money, but when I look back at the total that I have spent on all the misc brushes (pin, bristle, slicker, etc) and the combs, I would've saved money by just buying the les poochs in the first place!!
That's a good point Amy.  I already had a couple of brushes for Kylie (our maltese) and have bought a couple more for Pippin.  I hadn't heard of les poochs until this site.  Sounds like they are worth it and cut down grooming for dog and human!
The big difference is that the 'tines' i.e. wires are bent and the brush itself is flexible.  This allows you to get through the coat much easier and get all the way through rather than just raking the surface.  Ned hates to be groomed and doesn't like the LesPouchs any better than any other brush, but at least it does the job. Ned has a really thick, poodlish coat.  Clancy has a mostly shedding coat and the LesPouches does a great job with much less work on my part.
Thanks.  I couldn't see the difference just by pictures.  I'll save some $$ and order one.  I appreciate the comments.  :)
Jess, which one are you going to purchase and from where? I might bite the bullet and get one too.

Emily,

check out www.doodlecountry.com  I ordered my brush from there (the green one) but emailed Kemp first for his opinion on the best one for me.  I have 2 doodles with 2 different coats and really didn't want to have to buy 2 different brushes.  In the email to Kemp I explained their coat types and included 2 pictures and he suggested the green brush for me.

I sent him some pictures and we'll see what he suggests. The groomer scolded me and said Mabels ears were matted. When she pointed it out I felt so bad. I was always focusing on her coat and never noticed her ears looking that bad. I clean the insides all the time! How did that slip past me. Oh well, I guess we are all learning. They said I will have to shave her ears. She's gonna look silly!  :)
Hi Emily.  I sent pictures to Kemp at doodlecountry.com.  He recommended the green brush for Pippin (bonus, it will work for my maltese' coat as well). I will purchase from him because he has been so helpful.
