I gave Kali a nice big smoked bone from the butcher yesterday. It kept her busy for a good couple of hours and when she was done with it there was still quite a bit left. She then dropped it in a corner and went on a mission to find stuff to put on top of it. Buy the time I figured out what she was doing I was interested to see her finish. She managed to put a backpack and a few other things on top of the bone. Then when she realized I saw her hide it, she un-burred it and trotted off with it. I found it later under a pile of dirty laundry. I thought it was pretty cute. Any of your doodls do that?
I give my dogs their bones OUTSIDE for that reason... found a very rotten and stinky bone under the couch last fall - hadn't noticed it all summer, but when we turned the heater on, this very potent and less than delicious odor filled the family room, and the dogs got all excited and starting digging like crazy to get the bone out. They now bury their bones outside in the dirt, under bushes, or in the bark dust, and dig them up again when they're nicely decomposed and smelly, yuk!
I guess I am lucky when Willson gets a bone he takes it outside, I have no idea what he will do when its freezing cold outside, I guess he will hopefully stay inside with it
Halas will carry around a rawhide for about 20 minutes looking for the perfect place to hide it. He hardly even chews on it anymore. He'll go upstairs, be gone for a few minutes, and then come back down with it. He often "hides" it in plain sight by just pawing or nosing at the floor around it. Sometimes he will put it in the very back of his toy box and push other toys over it. If I'm on the couch with a blanket, he'll get up there and paw around at my blanket and legs and just lay the rawhide right next to me. But, like Kali, if he notices me watching, he'll move it. So if he lays it next to me, he moves it right away, realizing that I can probably see it. I have the door closed to my spare bedroom because I have a handsewn quilt on the bed, and I don't want him to get his toenails caught in it. Well, one night, I noticed the door was open, and he had been walking around with his rawhide earlier. Before I closed the door, I took a quick look around to see if the rawhide was in there. I didn't see it, so I turned to leave the room. As I walked out the door and started to close it, Halas noticed, and he ran in before I could close the door and came out with his rawhide. I'm not sure where it was hidden (definitely not on the comforter, thank goodness), but it was the best job he'd done at hiding something so far. Lately, he's been doing the same thing with one particular stuffed toy, and he's done it once with a dog treat, but it's usually just the rawhide.
That is cute!! My doodle puppy has not done this yet, but my older Shih-tzu does. she always hides them in my dd closet in her sweatshirts:) She too will find a new spot if she sees us watching......so human like.
YES! Halas and Jordan do the same things! How funny.
Jordan will walk around with a Bone or Chewy... slightly whimpering..... then when she finds the right spot, she will look around she has to make sure No one is watching and she places it there.
I find them in the couch, bed, chairs, against the wall, behind doors everywhere. She knows where they are too, she will go back to them. My couch cushions are always pushed out.
