Milo update (not entirely food)

Hey everyone,

We just got back from our 6 week trip. Before we left we had the Acana excitement, with Milo's preferred kibble being held by customs indefinitely for "possible salmonella contamination". We switched him cold turkey to Acana Pacifica, and after a few days, left him with house sitters and left on our huge trip.

Well, the update is that he did great, we had a good time, and he seems to be just as happy on Acana Pacifica as he was on Acana Grasslands. He did have loose stools the first week after we left, but since we had seen no loose stools even after the cold turkey switch, I assume that was just the stress of our leaving.

I misunderstood something Karen had said, and got him Stella and Chewy's lamb patties, and he gets one patty crumbled into his dinner every day, and so far, 6 weeks later, he is still wolfing down his food like a puppy. I mention that, as so many of our doods are picky eaters, and Milo would often need to be coaxed into eating by adding parmesan or yogurt to his kibble.

That said, he still gets a cup of plain yogurt a day, as a treat, as he loves it soo much. Right now though, the poor fellow is back on his illness diet, boiled white rice and yogurt, as he is on antibiotics for a healing, but slightly infected dog bite on his tail. Antibiotics give him such severe diarrhea his legs and butt get spattered, so I have to keep his diet under strict watch at this time.

Another thing that definitely has worked for us is watching his treats: cheddar cheese ( I buy a huge block, chop into one centimeter cubes and freeze) peanut butter and Zuke's chewy treats. Nothing else.

So we have had a happy reunion with Milo, who, btw, got trained by the house sitters to walk at our side ignoring the yips and calls of some rather rude chihuahas (4 in one house) who live on our street. Now, thanks to our amazing house sitters, Milo walks past their house, head in air, snootily ignoring all the cat calls and jeers from them :)

I wanted to come here with a cheery update, as so often, it is usually in a teary panic. So thanks everyone, and off to read the posts of the last month and see what your doods have been up to.
