I found a female F1b cream puppy that has short hair. she is the only one out of 11 with short, straight hair all others are very curly. The breeder thinks it will grow to be shaggy. Do you think that is possible or more likely to remain short?

If you give her regular hair cuts, it'll stay short for sure ;) Note that doodles with curly hair also needs regular hair cuts, just like poodles. You may find this website useful - it has pictures, so you can compare to "your" pup:

I think she is asking if her pup will stay flat coated or if it's coat will get long and shaggy. Not all doodles get long shaggy hair, especially the ones with short dull coats, they tend to stay short like labs, some get wispy but not shaggy.
see my reply to Eva. I would have to see your dog to be able to tell if it will stay short and flat or if it will grow out shaggy. If the coat is dull it likely wont get shaggy but it might get wispy on the legs, ears and eye area.
Hi Lori,

It's really hard to guess without a photo. Is there a photo you can share with us? Even then there are no guarantees.

That said I HAVE seen a VERY labby F1b before--most likely yours won't be that labby (or golden retriever--whichever is the case) but it is possible. It was a beautiful dog, but not shaggy at all.

After all even though an F1b is said to be 75% poodle and 25% retriever...that's only when looking at averages. An individual pup, can still, in any particular feature still end up quite retriever-like OR look like the spitting image of a poodle.

A shorter, straighter pup can end up shaggy or it may have a shorter coat with little wisps around its face and body. How old is the pup?

This is the famous Bocker the labradoodle at around 7 weeks:

And here he is all grown up and shaggy:

And I believe his owner keeps his chin trim so he would normally have a longer beard.
I have a friend with a multi gen Labradoodle boy and when he was young his coat was quite flat and short, but now that he's a little older his coat has gotten a lot longer. It's still not very curly though, he's got a hair type coat. He's a lovely looking boy though.
