I just finished Water for Elephants. I really enjoyed the end. It was great. Reading the character's observations about life from his age perspective was very enlightening as we are dealing with my 88 year old mother. I saw things from her side.
Nancy~ Glad to hear you liked it, I just bought it and am ready to start it. I was a recreation director at a nursing home and thought it would be right up my alley.
Oh yes, you will love it. I have a degree in recreation therapy and my mother is in a senior residence center. She will be 95 in October and I go in and do arts and crafts on Tuesdays. Tomorrow we are making bird houses. It is refreshing to see life from the point of view of an older person. The ending is great!
You were right Lynda, I loved it. I am on a reading kick now, As soon as ZI finished that, I started reading "Summer Rental" by Mary Kay Andrews. Really enjoyed it. I seem to like the beach theme for some reason.
It has nothing to do with dogs, but I am really enjoying reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It covers two main parts of the character's life, as a young man working for a circus and as an elderly man at an assisted living facility. Since my mother and FIL both are at that stage of life, it is particularly interesting to me.
There were only two things that I liked about Water for Elephants. I adored the end - really adored it. I also appreciated the insights on elders living in assisted living facilities. Other than that, shallow person that I am, I did not like it at all.
I recently finished "The Help". It was sooo good. One of those books you can't stop reading, but then you are kind of sad that it is over. The author did such a great job with the characters. She makes you feel like you really know them. The movie comes out in August. I'm usually disappointed in the movie compared to the book, but I am hoping they do a good job with this one.
Thanks for another suggestion. I will get it. Lately, I have been reading books on my iPad, so I hope it is available in e-reader format. About the movies, usually the book is better, but my son taught me a lesson on that one. He loved the movie White Fang even more than the book and I asked him why. He said it was because of the cinematography. Alaska was so beautiful and he had no idea what it looked like, having never been there. So, they do so much with movies these days, it may be a pleasant surprise. I actually enjoyed the movies from "The Girl Who..." because it was very different from what I was used to in movies also.
